How strong of an addiction is 3 Oxy's three times a week?

Recently my cousin, who is also my close friend admit to his girlfriend that he has been using 3 Oxycontin's and 1 Percocet in one day about three times a week. He said he wants to quit. Especially cause he and his girlfriend are expecting twin girl any week now.
I know to try clean yourself of any addiction is not easy and takes a lot of strength and encouragement, and each person is different. But, I would like to have some idea about how far in his addiction he is.

(Like I mentioned before) he said he has been taking 3 Oxy's and 1 perc in one day about three times a week (started for recreational use). Now I know the tolerance for drugs builds up and over time as well as the mental dependency. So I have no idea what to expect. He won't confess how long he's been doing this if there really has been more.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I love my cousin very much and so does his girlfriend. We want to be able to support his as best as we can.

Thanks!

Someone posted that it's not an addiction yet. First of all, nobody can say whether he's an addict or not. It has a lot to do with covering mental feelings with drugs. Too many people think that to be addicted you have to use every day. there's plenty of addicts who binge use just like there's many alcoholics that binge drink. It's the abuse of the drugs, not how much or how long you've been using.

I somehow just deleted a long post on this and it's getting late, but i'll sum it up real quick.

1.  It's very serious.  Even if he's telling the truth about how often and how much, it's very serious.  Addiction is a relentlessly progressive disease that is ultimately fatal if it's not arrested.

How serious is cancer if it's just a little tumor?  We don't ask that, because everyone knows that cancer is deadly serious.  You're lucky if it identified early, because that means you can begin the fight before it consumes you.  No one discovers cancer and says "well, if it gets big I'm really going to do something about it."

2.  He's not being honest, he's lying -- maybe about how often, maybe about how much, probably about both.  Dogs bark, fish swim and addicts lie.  That's what we do, at least when we're in active addiction.  For whatever reason, he's decided that three times a week sounds "not too bad" -- that's his story and he's sticking to it.

Addiction needs to be pulled out by the root as soon as it's discovered, or it will get worse.  That's what it does when left alone, it gets worse.  It never just gets better.

If this was not already a serious problem and he really wants to quit, then why hasn't he quit?

Too tired.  I hope he finds his way out.

Ok. Well I'm not sure how long he's been doing this. He's been showing signs of twitching and random sleeps for about almost a year. Also while I didn't think anything about it at then time, he had a pretty good knowledge about Oxy a few years back when my other cousin was put on it . So I think he's been doing something for a while.
He's used  many other drugs for recreational use since his teens. I'm not sure the extent of his list besides common party drugs and Horse tranquilizers.
But wouldn't how long he's been doing Oxy play effect if he's addicted?
Plus he didn't willing open up about his habit, his girlfriend actually was looking through his bag for something and it fell out of an inner pocket.

coming from some one with a pretty big pill problem..id say its not that bad yet,,,,,but it will still be way harder to stop and way easy to make it worse....i started about the same as him and i have had a pill problem for about 4 years now....if he dont need them it would be smart to stop....very very easy to take control of your life...even if you think you have it under control......maybe tell him about this site and let him come talk to some of the people on here...it really helps
