Chances for relapse-opiate?

Ok- I have posted about my withdrawal from suboxone- thank you to those who have helped with advice. I can only hope that I can pass along mine to others. I am on day 4 of wd and am feeling so so (better than yesterday).
Now my question is this- many of us on this site are here because of opiate addiction- (mine was purely for recreational use- never by prescription) curious to know how many have been through the withdrawals swearing up and down they will never touch an opiate again only to one day get hooked on them- again? Has this happened to anyone?
for those who have stayed clean- please enlighten me with how you did it.... (sometimes I wonder 'wow, what if I get a prescription for pain pills some day- can I handle them?')

Hi...I quit twice, once was ct and a disaster (2 months) and I ended up going back.  This last time was via taper and using this forum have been off meds almost 16 months.  I substituted exercise as my cure.

Good Luck

hey there.. prior to my last and longest sober time which was two years- i had relapsed more times than i can count-each time swearing it was the last time i would make myself go through it... i think my number is somewhere around 25 maybe 30 times. all within the course of 3 years after 3 prior years of straight opiate use. so my using time equals around 6-7 years using heroin or strong mg oxys(80mgs being the only one i could even get some kind of high off of after my intense heroin use). now, this doesnt mean the same will happen to you nor do i condone relapse however, i have learned to forgive myself because i have accepted that relapse is very much a reality of recovery. though, there are MANY who have acheived sobriety straight through. its just important to not let your gaurd down and know this is a life long fight. congrats on getting off the sub- i take sub and it quite literally saved my life. id be dead now if it was for the sub. so i have accepted that i want to be on a low dose, long term maintenance. and i know it will be foreve. im ok with that. but i totally think youre awesome for doing what youre doing. i also admire your courage! good luck !
