I need A LOT of support to do this

Guys,

I have been on the board now and then  but never seriously wanted to quit the pills.  Now i am ready.  I guess as everyone says, "I am so scared of the withdrawals!"  I read enough and have withdrawn more times then there are weeks in the year but never seriously thought about a life without pills.  Now it is time.  Though, one says you really have to want it and b/c of depression from the pills I don't know if i do.  But I truly believe it is the pills talking.  I just gave up alcohol which wasn't my DOC but enough to cause minimal withdrawals.  One thing at a time though and I wanted to get that out of the way first.  Now the pills............I do have back issues and should have surgery but want to try this first to see if part of the issue is not intermittent withdrawals making my pain worse.  This is where honesty comes into play for me.  I really need to be accountable and have support from  you guys to do this.  I am well over 60 years old and need help.  AA/NA is not my thing.  I have tried this and I have had very bad experiences with these groups.  Though what I came away with is a Higher Power which I do pray to...........

I really do not have any other medical conditions besides depression which did not surface until I started the pills..  I am not one to add anti D's until at least a couple months after I stop the pills.  Right now I have gotten down to approx 70 mgs of percocet and 10 mg of valium.  I will start with the percocet and then deal w/ the valium as that needs to be tapered and I know how that goes.  Again, please help me.  I start on Monday and I know the drill.

thanks
Charlie

Well, I can tell you that this is doable, not easy tho.  You do know all that of course, I also take Cymbalta, 60 mg morning and night, along with remeron to help with sleep. I am also a chronic pain person,  my pain levels went down after detox and getting on my feet again, it took a few weeks, but it was the pills that after awhile only seems to add to the pain.  The more I took, the more it took!  :(

I take: cymbalta, remeron, Neurotin(1800mg daily) ibuprophen, along with D-ribose to help with energy(that stuff is expensive if you buy it at Akins)!!

My friend your belief in God will bring you through. On day 3 of drawls I hit my knees and prayed for God to deliver from the bondage and the pain. Not that I still don't struggle ( i am on day 17) but from that point it was different I slept for 4 hours and have been getting better by the minute. At anytime someone is here to help you through this.

I just wanted to offer my support and prayers. I have back issues too and you will be surprised that the back pain may not be as bad as you think once you are off everything. Best wishes and God Bless

I think it is great that you want your life back!  I agree with you that it has to be one addiction at a time.  Why are you hesitant to go on and anti depressant?  I take Cymbalta 60mg for depression (which I had well before I started abusing pills) and I think it will be a huge benefit for overcoming the depression that goes along with wd's. You are a strong person and you have faith in god, all of that will help you overcome this addiction.  I am here often if you need to talk or feel free to PM me anytime.  We are all here to support each other through a difficult time and we will succeed!!  Ladydi4185

Congratulations ! This won't be easy but it will be soooo worth it.  We will be here for you.  Just remember to be patient with yourself , depression and lack of energy can last a few months.  I bet after a month clean your back pain will be much less, mine was.
