I was 3 weeks clean when I had a tooth absess and got a course of antibiotics and 5 days worth of hydrocodone (3 a day) of the 5 mg, I'm not sure how I had the will power to do it, but I took them as I was prescribed and when I was done with them, the pain had subsided due to the antibiotics, and I did not withdrawal again as it wasn't many that I took and only for a couple days. Sometimes unfortunately if nothing else works, those stupid pills are a godsend, but it took alot to take them as I was supposed to. The most I felt after I was done with them was minor cravings for more. But I wouldn't allow my mind to go there. I took hydrocodone 10/325 at 8 - 10 a day for 5 years and hydrocodone 5/500 at 6-8 a day for 4 years before that so I was on a fairly high dose, not as high as many people on here, but it was high enough to get my body dependant on them. It is for you to decide if you think you will have the mind set of taking them as prescribed if you truly NEED them. If you can't take them like that and still need them, do as Meeg said and have someone dole them out to you.

do you mean if you take one pill?  it probably won't set you back that much, but you will likely feel something withdrawal-wise.  i would be leery, too.  i know that i couldn't take them as prescribed without someone holding them and doling them out.  can you do anything as an alternative to opiate painkillers?  this can be a dicey issue.  good luck.  hopefully you will get some other opinions.
