Hey Hazel,  Yup the depression ***** for sure. Just remind yourself when your feeling down and teary that it's all the drug leaving your system. I actually would put on country songs that made me cry when I was in the car by myself and let it rip. I read on here once that crying stimulated endorphins that elevated seratonin levels. Dunno, but it's all part of the process. About the sleep. Just be careful about trying to manipulate your way out of the lack of zzzzz's. I tried in so many different ways to escape w/d with sleep and it just comes back to bite ya. Let your body get back on track naturally , the rest will fall into place. Congrats on making the leap. Life pill free is really good.

The haze and depression is not easy, but the good thing is that you are not going to die from them.  You come off the opiates and all our receptors are depleted and take some time to start firing up on their own without some pill doing the work for them.   Things that helped me was to take the magnesium, b vitamins, a good multi-vitamin/mineral, drink lots of fluids, and eat bananas and drink orange juice.  Some take L-Tyrosine for their mood, but I couldn't take that one.  It interfered with my anti-depressant and made me jittery and nervous.  Keep telling yourself that this too shall pass.  Try to find some comedy or good music to help elevate your mood.  Don't watch dreary movies..even though your mind wants to.  I would catch myself watching movies that made me cry.   It's all part of our emotions coming back to their natural state.  Don't be afraid of that.  If the depression lingers, then please contact your Dr.

Something that I learned, a little late, but I did learn, is that the more you stress about not being able to sleep the more anxiety and restlessness it brings. I came off methadone and thought I would die before I got any sleep. In 10 days I got about 6-8 hrs of sleep...but once I accepted that sleep was going to return when it was ready to, and I started watching movies or reading magazines, I did ok. You'd be surprised how well you can do on not much sleep. You'll be ok...there's some really good advice above on the supplements. Stay strong :)

Hello and welcome . . Melatonin may help, but often in a c/t sleep just does not come easy for (at least) the first few days.  You may want to try magnesium (1000mg before bed), or anything with potassium (I still eat bananas every night).  Stay away from caffeine and stay hydrated as much as possible.  If you can soak in a hot/warm tub w/Epsom salts before bed it may help with relaxation and sleep.  Play some music that is soothing to you.

From personal experience (having done this a couple of times), the benzos (Xanax, Klonipin) may help to relax you but you need to be careful to use them sparingly and not end up trading one addiction for another.  I also found that these just made me feel sluggish and more uncomfortable in general the next day, as did rx sleeping pills (ambien).

As soon as you are able, get out and get some fresh air, take a walk; even a short one.  This will help get the natural endorphins going and fight the depression.  I also found taking 5HTP helped quite a bit with depression and even sleep - but don't take this one if you are already taking an AD or SAMe or anything like that.  Once I was completely off the opiate, I started the 5HTP @ 300mg per day and am now just taking 100mg at night (4 /1/2 months clean).  Hope this helps - good luck to you!

You can do sarquel. A doctor can.give it to u. It will knock u out. I took 300mg, for two days. Only thing I didn't like is that it's effects will carry on to the next day. So u will need time home. J don't know if that helps. If u have hands. Just take more. Good luck. U can do it
