Insurance/DEA with pain meds??? help!

I have been clean and sober from vicoden 10/325's for 6 days now and feeling GREAT!!!  Then I get hit w/ the news today that my perscription plan notified the DEA who sent letters out to all of the Dr.'s that perscribed narcotic pain meds to me (Dr.'s that I used to use haven't filled a script in over a week and wouldn'teven try!) and the Dr.'s started to call me and because I didn't know what they were calling about and didn't want to be tempted to ask for more drugs- I haven't answered.  Now I'm freaking out- worried that the insurance company, Dr.'s and DEA are going to try and prosicute me or something for all this....has anyone heard of this happening?  I know they call this type of thing "Dr. Shopping" and that's exactly what I was doing- but is it punishable through the courts, etc.?  Or- is this just a procedure they do to let the Docs know that I'm a bad girl and should not be perscribed pain meds??
I'm freaking out about it so if anyone has any prior experience with this or words of wisdom- please please help me.
I'm a Mom of a beautiful 2 yr. old girl and don't want anything to happen to me that wold take me away from her for even a day! Please please help if you can..... thank you so much!

maybe you can try and goggle the laws in tx....I think avis had some good advice about getting into a program ...I do know where i live, every doctor and pharmacy has this database now...i went to the doctor my Gp not long ago for a sinus infection..and while sitting there waiting for him, the nurse brought in a paper and put it on his desk...Of course i looked at it , and almost CHIT on myslef (excuse my language)...Because it had listed all medications I had filled recently...thank god on it was just antibiotics, imitrex, and some medicine for ezama...But If it would have went back a couple yrs I would have died right there....Not saying that my past will not bite me, because we just never know.....
You are only human, and we all made terrible mistakes during addiction...God knows, i should have gotten a DWI many times, but just didn't get caught..SO we are definitley not here to judge you...I truly wish you the best...Do some research and maybe you can see the laws for texas...
god bless

No, it's not my 1st offense.  I had a possession of marijuana charge about 10 yrs ago that I did probation for and got deferred adjudication but thennnn.... i got a DWI about 4 yrs ago that I completed probation for. I have never falsified a perscription or anything, I wouldn't ever try and alter a perscritpion- I just went to a bunch of Dr.'s.  So does anyhone know about TX law on this?

Most states are now running a database that's is connected from doctors to all phamacy so when this database has your name come up for getting narcotics from more then one doctor the can inform the doctors and the dea,

I am not trying to be mean when I say this so plz dont take it that way the law does not care whether you have kids or not they just just go by the law .

Is it your first offence .you havent been writing scripts on your own have you . I would get a laywer .It is so great you are already 6 days clean get into an aa/na progarm or some type of out patient ASAP so they see you are doing everything you can .
hang in there we are here for you.

I hate to be blunt but i would definately take this seriously. My mom might lose custody of my brothers for doctor shopping. So legally you might not have a huge problem but if they get DHS or other other children services involved there might be some trouble. I would reccomend that you stay clean, quit all the doctors, and go out of your way to show how good of a mother you are because i'm sure you are:) And by the way as much of a feat it truly is to go 6 days without them damn vicodin DHS prolly wouldn't applaud that like NA/AA  does so exaggerate. Good Luck.

I call that Gods perfect timing.  Isn't it good you had a few of the hardest days behind you before you had to be cut off by someone other than yourself. I dont know anything about the legal part.  God Bless.  Hang in there baby it gets so much better.

You need to be entirely and fully honest with everyone here for them to be able to help you out. Its a private and anonymous site that you dont have to worry about. So dont confuse a Doc calling you about a DEA contact with you initiating a request for a refill of a script. Thats not really a good call to ignore. DA's and those kind of guys will show up even if you do not answer the phone. Thats what they do. This is not professional advice - - but the powers that be do not generally call around before they show up. And they probably dont want to have to spend the money to prosecute you.......but they definitely want you to stop, and they will incarcerate you if you do not. This isnt the kind of situation that gets resolved in a week. A week seems like quite a long time when you are detoxing.....but its not very long in the process of recovery. You might want to ask your local BAR association for a contact for a legal consultation. But you may also want to talk to one of the Doctors that tried to contact you. Find out exactly where you stand and start making some plans to deal with your problem. This wont go away and you are at risk of letting it come between you and your daughter.......in a most unpleasant situation.  You are not a total rookie here - - - freaking out will not help. But you should be able to avoid jail and possibly even the court system if you play your cards right. And best of luck to you - - -

How did u find out that the DEA was notified? Because the docs were calling you?  Two years ago I doctor shopped.  I messed up once at a CVS, and had a script filled too soon after the previous one, and it was with a different doctor.  They contacted the local police in my town.  A dectective called my house, and told my husband what I was doing.  He knew anyway.  The detective wanted to meet with me about it all.  After speaking to many people, I was advised not to say anything to him, but to retain an attorney, which I did.  I was issued citations for obtaining prescriptions under false pretense, which is basically doctor shopping.  Yes, it is a felony!  The detective had on record 11 different doctors that I went to.  The day my husband got the call, I checked into a detox facility to get clean in a medical setting, and also figured it would look good for my case.  I was only in there for three days.  Finally after a few court appearances that kept getting continued, my lawyer got the DA to drop all charges.  I was very very lucky.  In my state, you are allowed ONE expungment, so there is nothing on my record.  I did have to pay a fine of like $500 or something.  I pray this all is not what will happen to you....... Remember, the docs, pharmacies, and police don't know if you are an addict, or SELLING your meds, which lots of folks do!  I will keep you in my prayers.  I know what you are going through.  My son was 7 at the time all of this happened....

Well first I want to say congrats on 6 days clean...I really don't know what can happen here, but i am sure someone will come along and help more...I did my share of doctor shopping too, and i think that was before this whole new database thing., because i am sure i would have gotten caught too...IMO, I think that you will be ok, and the most they may do is try to get you in some kind of treatment...just thank god you are clean now...

I am sure things are different in all states too...I would try to take a deep breath , and maybe someone else knows more about this stuff...I will be praying for you, that things work out...Just try and focus on staying clean...Good luck
