PLEASE HELP - methadone withdrawal

Oh God, the thing in this world I fear the most, running out of my meds early.  I take methadone 10 mg twice a day and percocet 10 mg usually once or twice a day.  Well, they cut me down from 30 mg a day to 20 on my methadone a while back and it has been so hard for me to adjust to that dose, plus I must have forgotten I had already taken a dose sometime in the month and taken an extra one.  Now, I am running out early, just 2 days, but still I am already getting sick.  I have 15 mg left, has to last me till Monday.  I don't know if taking 5 mg will even help me at all.  Would you go to the ER and if I do, do you think they would help me?

Thanks,

Cindy

you would have been fine.  Methadone has such a long half life, if you didnt let your mind freak out.  You totally would have been fine for 2 days.

Well, it's a miracle, my doctor's nurse actually called me a few minutes before 5 and told me that they had my prescriptions ready that I could get filled today, it was SUCH A RELIEF, I am sure you can all imagine...................I just hate being on this stuff but at the same time I cannot imagine my life without it after all this time, I feel like I would be in constant withdrawal which I know is stupid.  Well, I just mainly wanted to thank you all for taking the time out to try to help me -- the kindness and compassion in your replies touches my heart -- thank you, thank you.................so grateful to be able to sleep and eat now...................................

Love, Cindy

These drugs are not refillable they need new scripts every time. I would not go to the ER beacause like someone said, it could be an exercize in futility. If you tell your doc , he might cut you off all together. Unlike a methadone clinic, a doctor a pain clinic can just cut you off cold with no notice. You should be able to make it through on 15 mg. methadone has a LONG halflife. all the best

you can tell them that you are going on vacation and hopefully they are well aware that methadone needs to be maintained. unfortunately there are some docs that are clueless about its effects. worst case scenario, you will have to divide up what you have left, and spread it evenly. best to take it later in the day to help you sleep. get some strong cold medicines, cough syrups, and valarian root(herb) for sleep. ibuprophin for the day, protein body building mixes with aminos, and I used power drinks like NOS.

also if you have to work like I often had to, let them know you are sick and hurting bad.

I feel so sorry for you, because I have been there before so many times.

I dont believe in lying to people about WD's.  methadone is one of the hardest. but the good news is some people can manage cold turkey(which is not recomended) I have done it.

best to get a refill then you can work on a taper program.

do you have a refill left on your meds, through the pharmacY? Or do you need to get another written RX from your doctor?

I would NOT go to the ER if I were you. They may think you are a drug seeker and unlikely to give you anything but a 3 hour wait in their waiting room and send you on your way with an Rx for Motrin.

thank you so much for just talking to me, I am getting so scared.  I called the nurse while ago and left a voice mail, told her my meds were not due until Sunday but could I please get them filled tomorrow, I know you would think just one day or two days early would not be a big deal, but I believe with this particular doctor, he has gotten very strict about not filling early.  I have known him for 20 years, he was my hubby's doc during his long illness with chronic kidney disease, he knows that I am basically a good person, I just got myself into a mess years ago with tension headaches from all the stress with my hubby's illness.  I guess I will see what happens, thanks again for responding to my post.

love, cindy
