Yes it is and hopefully it will ease in a day or two at least that wd symptom will and he will be nautious a few more days after that.
Mom, I too am a mom of a child with a serious addiction, I am amazed at people that say the physical w/d last 3-7 days, I assume it is different for all people, but I can tell you that with 25 plus days of absolutely no drugs for my child, there are still w/d's. To quit all drugs that have been abused, is a hard battle, and it is not over in a few days. If you want to chat in more detail please send me a PM
Yes, the symptoms you have been describing are withdrawal symptoms. But you really need to realize that the methadone is actually a harder withdrawal than the heroin. Keep reading up on all of this stuff. There are some excellent articles in the archives here on med help that might jump start your knowledge on this situation. Keep an eye on his fluid intake. Its easy to get dehydrated doing this and its more serious than many realize. Set a bottle of 7-up out over night. Then serve flat and warm.....works better than it sounds. Also white grape juice is good. Avoid all caffeine - acidic items - citrus drinks and fruits - even tomatoes are full of acid - ......... At least the treatment for both heroin and methadone are the same ... but methadone takes a lot longer than most folks realize. Good luck to both of you - keep posting with questions and for support..lot of good people here and they are knowledgeable about this stuff. Have you tried emetrol and immodium? Good for vomiting and for loose stools and is over the counter.....Feel free to PM me if you wish - - - and best of luck to both of you .... eagle
I don't know so much about Heroin but the withdrawl symptoms sound normal to me. It is He!! What a mom to be with him. While detoxing I spent almost the whole day in the shower. Best of luck to you and your son. Stay strong!!
Heroin addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. The heroin abuser’s nervous system becomes accustomed to accommodating chronic exposure to the drug, which is an opioid. Therefore, during heroin detoxification excruciating withdrawal symptoms are ubiquitous. Withdrawal symptoms begin within 12 hours of not using and peak after two to four days. The symptoms include: nausea, anxiety, diarrhea, abdominal pain, insomnia, chills, sweating, sniffing, sneezing, weakness and irritability. So I would say that yes, throwing up is normal. If you feel that its getting to the point where its getting a bit too dangerous I would take him to a doctor or the ER. I hope he is ok. Good luck and keep us posted..
