Kolonopin

So I am on day 5 of cold turkey off tramadol.  I have done okay until today seems like it has been a little harder, I am really jittery.  My doc gave me Kolonopin and I was wondering what that does and what is a usual dose?  thanks

Congrats on day 5....I would just follow his directions on the bottle..But please know that it is very addicting...Only take what you need...coming off of klonopin for me was just as hard or harder then opiates...
stay strong, and keep going

Hi there...congrats on your success thus far!

Klonopin is a benzodiazepine...like Xanax, or Ativan, only, unlike the shorter acting benzos (those I listed)...it is appropriate for long term use as an anti-anxiety med...b/c it does not share the "tolerance" (needing an increasingly higher dose to maintain its effectiveness) issue that the shorter acting benzos are known for.

However...it will need to be tapered if you take it for a decent length of time.

It should be dosed twice a day for it to work properly....it builds up in the plasma to keep you at a more steady state of calm....rather than to be used as a "rescue" med...like Ativan, Xanax...when they are taken "as needed".

Good luck!

Oh, and a typical starting dose would be like 0.5 mg twice a day.

Klonopin is like Xanax or Valium. Benzodiazipines. You should be careful though because they as well are also very addicting. when I was coming off of opiates my doctor put me on Zoloft and Xanax, and now im having a Xanax problem. It DOES help so much with the anxiety but dont let it get to the point where your body needs it to function. Good luck. [=
