Recipe for Detox- question on ingredients

Ok, so the thomas resipe includes:(amongst a couple others)

L-Tyrosine* (500 mg caps) from the health food store.*

Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper and Magnesium.

Vitamin B6 caps. [or stress B-complex?]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**My question.... has anyone ever taken just the L-Tyrosine with out the B6 or mineral supplements?
It says the B6 helps with absorbtion, so maybe best to make sure to take the L-Tyrosine with b6 at least?
Whats the purpose of taking the mineral supplements of zinc, phosphorus, copper & magnesium??

just a money factor & trying to minimalize this if i can for my own purpose... so could i just take L-Tyrosine & B6?

Thank you

I haven't taken it.  But I do know that it is suggested that people coming off of opiates use it only in the AM.  I can't take caffeine at all -- so I'd only use it if I really coudn't get moving.  I'd suggest trying 500mg at first -- if it comes in a capsule, you can dump half out (or if it's a tablet, break in half) if you are really concerned.  For some people it works great -- it just depends on what you can tolerate.  Try a low dose and see, you may be perfectly fine with it.  I think it probably helps more people than not -- I just happen to be sensitive to things like caffeine, so I shy away from it.  Just be sure to read the warnings on the Thomas recipe about it -- it explains it there.  Good luck.

so this energy boost, is it really a noticeable boost? like i know its not magic, but i just feel down & just on the couch. I WANT to get up & start living again, but i'm drained.

does this boost possibly give any shakes or anything kinda like those moster/red bull drinks give... i know that all sugar & caffeine, but is that the type of boost to expect?

or just a good boost, where i would actually get moving.. lol

Lost Butterfly,

First, congrats for getting off of as much as you have -- be sure to give yourself some credit for the positive things you've done.

And I know what you mean about taking things like supplements regularly!  Eventually, you'll get used to it.

Yes, you should be fine with the l-tyrosine and B6 in the AM as long as you don't have a problem with the energy boost.

Do yourself a favor and look at the Amino Acid Protocol  (found in the "Health" link, like the Thomas Recipe).  That gives more info about supplements.  Eventually, get a copy of the book  "End Your Addiction Now".  It really explains how all of the supplements work in detail.  I've have the book for and it makes a lot of sense.

To All:
The Thomas Recipe listed on this site isn't the original recipe that Tom came up with -- I'm sure a lot of you know that.  Did any of you here know him?  A wonderful man, extremely intelligent being.  It's none of my business, but I am curious  :)

Thank You All,
It's wierd how the only meds I would ever take regulary were my DOC's... i never could stay in another habit of taking multi-vitamins regularly... don't know why.. kinda wierd. So i'm afraid that if i make this complicated, & its not my DOC that I WANT, then i won't follow thru.

So, trying to keep it simple... I assume if i start out with just taking the L-Tyrosine in the AM with B6.. this should be good for now? And if i seem to keep up on taking that then I could add in some of the others...
I definately need an energy boost, or a swift kick in the @$$. i have been a complete vegetable. I have not gone clean 100% but i have stopped taking 1 of my DOC's, Vicodin & been trying to taper the Trams... well kinda all this is not by choice, but cuz i can't get any anymore.. i think that sux more than anything...

Thank You

Just a side comment.  I added a good pharmacuetical grade fish oil product to my routine and found it help immensely.  Omegas are good for just about any issue, and have a nice mood boosting quality.  Might be worth checking out.  I am loving the Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega.

I take 5 HTP  and B-6 coenzemated sublingual tablets both A.M. and P.M. but yes 5 HTP and anti-depressants can cause drowsiness.  Taking those two supplements together converts the amino acid L- Tryptophan to raise serotonin levels.  Magnesium helps with mild anxiety and sleep issues. Lots of good advice on hear for people to obtain.  I like it

Opiates and other drugs deplete magnesium.  It's actually best taken with calcium and Vitamin D3, but it doesn't need to get that complicated.  Tom put in a multi- mineral supplement to try to keep things simple.  Most addicts don't watch their diet while using, so it makes sense to take a multi-vitamin/mineral.  But I agree with avisg, magnesium is probably one of the most over looked minerals, so definitely include that.

The l-tyrosine gives an energy boost -- if you need it, take it in the AM only

magnesium helps both pain lelvel and sleep issues .It was one of the the most helpful for me .I used the ltyro never after 11am and I took 5hpt  for mood once in the am and once in the pm however neither ltyro or 5hpt sould be taken if you are on an antidepressant .I also used b6 and 12 . I have to say On top of all of this i exersised EVERYDAY threw WD and after I got back to normal pretty darn quickly. I think it has alot to do with what I took and the exersise .Most of the people that I know that exersised threw WD had milder shorter WD.
