PLEASE HELP- SUB WD

I have a question for anyone who has or tried to get off suboxones. I have been taking approx 8-16mg of subs for the past year. I am finally ready to get off these! I tried cold turkey about 2 months ago and found that the W/D are really bad. However, I wanted to know if anyone knew of a good taper plan.  I have been taking btw 4-2mg for the past week, trying to hit for every other day. I've read the health pages on thi site about W/D, but I just wanted others input. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks - SAM

I would say the best way is to taper by taking that 4mg 2mg in the am 2mg in the evening staying on it for 5 days then drop 1mg every 5 days splitting the dose into 2 doses per day until you are down to 1mg split that dose into .5mg one am one pm then taper to only one dose per day for 5 days until you are down to .25mg then start taking that evry other day for 5 days then every 3 days for 5 days and so on until you are at 0. I know you dont want it to last this long but this way you should have min.to no w/d symptoms The most important part is to stabilize at every dose so you know if you are going to have w/d if so extend the taper

i am not sure but i think i have a taper in my journal that my pain mgt doc uses for his patients..i will check...but it is for short term use...at this point he says taper 1 mg every  3-4 days....getting down to 2 mg is usually easy for most..it is then that the crunch hits....then u need to go to .5 mgs ever week..if in a hurry then every 2-3 days...then like cat said at the end u do crumbs only if u have to..slivers..powerful drug and it is good u want to be free...the thomas recipe can help u...slivers til u do slivers every other dqay...this is doable,r u a good taperer?  i suc! write it out..ur taper...stick to it...pick a QUIT day and stick to it as well...this almost sounds like tapering of ur DOC...cos now sub is ur DOC...butthis is sodoable

4mg     spread it out into 3 does    1.5   1   1.5
shave .5 off every few days.....then when u get to 1 mg ndo shavings thru the dqay only if u have to

good luck..key is write it out

Since you're taking 2-4mgs/day I would advise you to take a little longer than that but if that's what you want to do it can be done. A slower taper doesn't necessarily have to be painful but you have to be willing to take the time for it. I'll PM you what I have just in case it will help.

Yes, I've read the FAQ part on this site, and it is a ton of info!!! When I stopped cold turkey it was HORRIBLE. On day 3, I said the hell with this and took a sub. I was so freakin angry at myself though, knowing that I will just have to go thru it again. With all the info that I've read, it seemed to imply that the WD are less severe if a tapering is involved. However its a painful long drawn out taper. Just wanted to see what others have experienced and any suggestions.

Hi Sam - don't try CT again! Since you've been taking it for a year and also because you're still taking 2-4mgs/day. WDs would be horrid jumping off from where you are now. Due to the length of time you've been on them you're going to need a slow taper. I crashed from 4mgs/day to 1mg/day in less than a month - I was too impatient to do it slower than that! I can PM you a few different taper schedules if you'd like. They're entirely too long to post here, so just let me know if you'd like to check them out. Also - at the bottom right of the screen if you click on the link for Suboxone/Subutex FAQ Part One there is a taper schedule listed in there as well.

join the club  Sam,

good taper plan? is only good after you succeed.
According to the FAQ on sub detox, if you took it for more than a few months, which is the  ideal (shorter) time, then the taper is shorter.
Longer time on sub, longer taper.
Try to get the 2mg suboxone pills, they are easier to break/cut into less than 1 mg pieces.
Eventually you get down to slivers and crumbs dose, with days in between.
I have not gotten less than .75 mg for at least a few months.
I know that clean is what I want, but the wd is such a drag, it's hard not to keep taking that litte bit when you feel like ****.
But in order to get clean, I know I have to go through more time in between doses, and start incrementaly decreasing the dose and extending the time between.
Please keep posting your progress; we all need the encouragement.
