Sonrissa is absolutely right. Not only about the nervousness fading once you get there, but that I did live to tell about it!!! LOL
You can do this! Just look at Brandi. She went and lived to tell about it. :) I completely understand the nerves, but once you get there and sit down and listen to the other member'a stories, the nerves will disappear. Try it, you'll like it, lol!
Sonrissa I guess you can say "told you so"!! LOL
I did go alone. I was nervous too, but really glad I went
I am considering going to my first meeting and I'm nervous at the thought. I don't have friends that use, so that helps, but I need to hear from people that have been there that I can do this and keep off of them.
Congrats to you for making that first step! Did you have anyone to go with or did you go alone? I'll probably be going alone.
Hi Brandi. It's great to hear that you made it to the meeting, and that you were welcomed and encouraged. Can I say, we told you so? LOL! Keep it up. You are doing great. Keep going to those meetings and you will feel stronger and more confident!
Brandi!!! I'm so happy to hear you had a good first meeting! Reading this makes my morning complete :-). The major feeling I got from my first meeting I remember is that "these people are going to help me". It sounds like you have been inspired. Enjoy!!!
Thanks guys! Yes I did get a white chip. Someone there last night had 19 years!! Amazing.
Congrats brandi. What a huge important step.
Great job! You will never feel more free! Did you pick up your white chip? It gets easier and easier. If there is a few in your area try several. I have found that a lot of the same people are at a lot of the meetings. I can't wait to attend a Christmas and New Years Eve party with a bunch of sober people. I am very shy so I have had to make myself speak. I was even the chair person for the month of November at my home group-very scary! But I am doing without any pills, alcohol, etc. I also can't wait for the giving back part. I am learning so much from recovering addicts. They really do "keep coming back!" Several have 15, 17, 24 & 30 years sobriety.
I was a fascinating experience, I have to say i'm pretty proud of myself!
Amen! What a great step forward!
I'm so happy u were well embraced. Thats what were all about. Welcone Home!
