Methadone Tolerance

I have been experiencing cravings on a daily basis for approximately 1 year.  The clinic performed a blood test to measure the rate my system metabolizes the methadone.  Conclusion by physician from blood test reults was that I am metabolizing methadone at a normal rate.
I have Hepatitis C and am going through menopause. Could those 2 conditions cause the cravings i am experiencing?  Also I urinate frequently throuhgout the day.
I have had problems with my take home supply of methadone. I am taking my next day's dose too soon (i would take my next's day's dose in the afternoon).  Of course this would cause me to ren out of methadone sooner that i was suppose to and i would then suffer for 3 days. I noticed that i wasn't experiencing any cravings when i drank my next day's dose.

Hope you can help.

Thank you

First...always listen to Gnarly!   Just my opinion but having cravings for over a year just defeats the purpose of the Methadone!  That's a shame!!   When you take the next day's dose can you take just half of that and see how you feel? That way you won't run out so quickly. Just a thought until you get to talk with the doctor.

Good luck!

Thank you for your prompt response and suggestions.  Congratulations on tappering off the methadone.  You must feel liberated.

I have been at 145 mg for approximately 1.5 years.  I found a few articles from reputable websites that address my situation.  So I am planning to meet with 1 of the staff physician'sso we can look at this together and resolve this matter that has been baffling me for the past year .

At the clinic I attend when a client requests a dose increase the conselors or physicians look at the request like the main motive is to get high..  Shame on them.

I'll let you know what happens after I meet with the physician.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

HI welcome to the forum....I was on methadone for 6 1/2 yrs started at 30mg and over time got up to 150mg dont let anyone tell you you dont build up a tolerence to the stuff
talk to the doctor and tell thenm what you on is not holding you over if you dont mind me asking what dose are you at now?? theirs not much else you can do till you get fed up with the program and want to quit....quitting was one of the best decisions of my life and I highly recommend it its a slow process of tapering down but it is doable and so so worth it
I wish you the best of luck at the clinic I learned that the squeaky wheel gets the oil
dont back down about this stand up for your rights good luck and God bless.....Gnarly
