Does Suboxon work?

My husband is addicted to pain medication and while he has a legit injury we have decided he needs to stop being drugged up by the doctors. I have done a little research on these withdrawl drugs but I have heard of people getting addicted to suboxon, does it really work or is it just another pill for my husband to need?

well.....that is a very mixed topic....number one is at some point in addiction///not saying ur hubby is addicted/// the person who actually opens the bottle and places the pill in their mouth has to take the responsibiltiy for any dependence that it is caused...not every pain patient becomes addicted but the warnings are on the inserts and everywhere u look...perhaps he is one of the unfortunate people like me/a chronic pain patient with an addiction....so pills r no longer of use to me unless i want to lose my identity to stay out of pain/to be honest they didnt even do much of that anymore due to my tolerence to narcotics.....I am sure the doctors u 2 see are not intentionally drugging up ur spouse...nor any conspiracy to make him an addict....there just comes a point whene the patient has to use their own judgement skills...have u informed him of ur suspicions?  most will work with a patient to taper them down to quit...sub can become a new doc...again..the patient must take responsibility ..and speaking with the doctor is a good start...and letting go of any blame...it is now a problem u must deal with and blaming helps no one as a rule

if he is addicted to opiates like vicodin or norcos(hydrocodone), or percocets(oxycodone), and they are well motivated and wantimng to truly stay off of painkillers then suboxone is a good option. I was on it for over 8 months and it kept me clean from a nasty habit with snorting heroin and oxycontin for over two years, along wtih benzos(xanax, valium, klonopin) and sleeping pils(ambien, lunesta). I had a huge tolerance for opiate and once I was in bad withdrawals about two days they amde me wait, I was given my first dose of suboxone, They started at 4 mgs and it took away my withdrawals isntantly and gave me a warm buzz that lasted a really long time. I eventually over a month moved up 32 mgs of suboxone the highest studied dose thats effective as a mixed agonist. The higher you go up the actually more withdrawal effects start to come out of the drug. It turns into a antagonist(what they give you when you overdose). So a dose of 8 mgs to 24 gms is a good idea, but know taht any higher you wont get much mroe rleief or get any "higher". and yes along with methadone it does get you high for the first month while you adjust to the dosing. and both are horrible to get off of, they both produce profound brutal withdrawals that last for months. The only difference is that methadone is a full agonist and your dose can go up higher and higher. After about 50 mgs of methadone it blocks, like suboxone, the effects of other opaites so it defers abuse of other opiates. you can abuse benzos like  xanax, klonopin, valium, and lorazepam while on both of them and it will add to the sedating and euphoric effects, but you do have to be careful because that cocktail has killed many of ppl, i have never had a problem with the mixture but it can be very lethal. I am currently on 1.5 mgs of clonazepam during teh day and 2 mgs of lorazepam at night and lowering both each month along with 60 mgs of methadone, and going higher. the sub worked well for a while but eventually i succumbed to the disease again and needed something more to keep me off.best of luck to both of you..stay strong-chris

It really depends on why he wants to take Suboxone, what strength and for how long.
