For most people tapering will lessen the intensity of the w/d's and should lessen the length of time that they last. Suboxone has a very long half life so it stays in your system for a long time about 72hrs(approx). So over time during your taper your injesting a smaller amount of buprenorphine, so the less that is in your body when you quit, the less your body has to get rid of, thus shortening the w/d period. Now atleast thats how I understand it, I could be wrong because Im not a chemist or anything. Regardless if thats the reason, if you can stick to a taper I really believe that the w/d's are easier than if you go cold turkey off a higher amount. The main reason of the people that Ive talked to who like to go c/t, is either they cant stick to a tapering schedule or they just assume get the process over as quick as possible. Suboxone is weird when it comes to w/d's, it seems everyones experience is a little different even if they followed the same type of plan or schedule. Ive talked with people who have come off at 2mgs and not had any problems, others had serious w/d's for weeks. On the other hand Ive seen people who taper all the way down to a tiny crumb and still had bad w/d's. For me I got down to a little less than .5mgs and stayed there for about a week before I quit. Now the first 10days were not fun, but previous detoxes I have gone through were physically quite a bit worse. Anyway you slice it the w/d period is hard, but you can do it, just stay focused on the fact that you'll be so much happier once you do this. I know I stressed so much before I finally got the nerve up to quit and I found that it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Remember were here to help you through this, anytime you have a question or just need to vent, feel free to send me a message or note, or just post it up in the forum. Trust me when I say that the anticipation and worry about the w/d's are almost worse than the detox itself, we all have fear of the unknown. Its good that your trying to eat healthy, taking vitamins and amino acids, the one thing you will want to have on hand is some immodium, it will really cut down on the amount of bathroom trips you'll have to make. When I asked my doctor what was the best thing I could do during withdrawal he said to just try and stay busy and keep your mind occupied. The worst thing you can do is lay around in bed or on the couch watching tv, even though thats all you really feel like doing. I rememer at the time I was like well thanks for nothing, I was hoping he had some trick up his sleeve to help me out, but his advice really did help when I put it to use. Sorry I always end up typing way too much, but if you need anything feel free to ask, I'll do my best to help you with anything I can. We're all routing for you, so good luck and take care.

hi :)  i am sure tapering does help for some.  personally, i felt like hell the whole time i tapered last time i got off of hydrocodone.  currently i am 31 days clean from 16-18 pills a day cold turkey.  honestly, it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be going cold turkey.  it is done and over with now instead of being dragged out by a taper schedule that could have lasted a month or more for me.  i felt like hell the first day and was out shopping the 2nd day.  obviously that is not going to be the normal experience for everyone out there who does cold turkey!!  i was getting vitamin b12 injections and taking a multivitamin to help with energy and it did help a lot!!  make sure you are taking a b12 pill everyday if you are not already!!  i felt bad pretty much physically (diarrhea, sleeplessness) for about 5-7 days personally.  the fatigue lasted a good 3 weeks until i actually felt energetic all day and normal again.  hope my answer could help you some!!  good luck and congrats on your taper so far!!
