Need Help Getting Off Oxy

Hello, I really need to get off oxycontin, but I don't want to use methadone or any other drug. I would use them, but I have several friends on them and they're much worse than they were on oxy. Everytime I see them they're all nodding out, sleeping, etc. Also, they've been on the methadone so long, and I don't want to be dependent on anything. I really can't be nodding out at school, work, during my household responsibilities, etc. How can I wean myself off them without the use of those type of drugs?

I don't blame you for not wanting a maintenance drug...Methadone totally messed my brain chemistry up....was on 160mg for 6 years.  But, for a true addict tapering is very difficult....if we could control our usage we would not be addicts....if you have very good self-control then go for it...but i would recommend giving the meds to a very trusted friend or family member (one who don't get high, of course LOL) and have them dole out the proper dosages to you....another way to go is to throw every thing out and go cold turkey, if it gets too bad, go to the ER....Another option is to go to a doctor and explain what you are going through....there are many medications that are non-addictive that can be prescribed to help make w/d less painful....good luck!

cold turkey on oxycotin is really difficult. i did quit after taking about 50mg a day after surgery and the withdrawals were hell.  i HIGHLY recommend tapering down, find someone u can trust to control what u take.  when u get to a low enough dose the withdrawals won't be that bad and most of all tolerable!!  i personally became a fan of pot which really helped with the anxiety and lots of vitamins and i drank a couple red bull to help with the sluggish feeling.  I was afraid to sleep during the day for fear it would mess up any chance i had of sleeping at night.  quitting at a high dose can have a real bad effect on ur body so please taper down and speak to someone u trust to help.  cut back half a pill every few days or one pill if u can tolerate it. it's a slow process but i also know ppl. on methadone and agree that is worse.  good luck and this place is great for info and everyone is in the same boat so we understand

Well that leaves you with two choices either CT or tapering off the oxy .Not many addicts can taper for most its all or nothing .If you can taper then the wd tend to be milder but can be drawn out .CT is one very bad week then things get better . If you look in the "health pages " the is something called the Thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol I would look at both . also you want to set up some recovery care aa/na  and addiction therapist something in the long run that is what will keep you clean . Let us know how you are doing . We will be here for support .....
