Need help

I need help! I started taking one vicodin every other day or so to help cope from my divorce and to handle my high stress job! A coworker said it would do the trick and it did! Things didn't bother me anymore and I was a machine at work eventually even getting promoted. It's been 3 years now And on dAys I can afford it I'll take up to if not over 40 pills! It totally controls my life, schedule, relationships, everything! I hate it and want to stop! I'm broke, tired and don't want to live this anymore. It's all I think about is getting my next batch! I only took 12 yesterday and none so far today! I already have major fatigue and flu symptoms! How could I be this stupid? I checked my year to date ATM withdrawls and literally could have a paid for Mercedes in my driveway! What is the best way to do this? I can't miss work or take time off! Help!

Ok, if you could take a Friday or Monday off and do it over a 3 day weekend after you taper a little, you should be good!  I understand your anger.  Point it in the right direction, and use it to help you get off this junk that is ruining your life! : )

Thank you all for the posts! Its so nice to know that Im not the only one that is in this boat and that I can really get off this crap! Ive been using for about 3 years. I can maybe take a day off and that would be it. I took a total of 12 yesterday and a total of 8 today and maybe 5 tomorrow if I have to. Ive tried this before and have failed but I feel differently about quiting this time. Im not trying to justify it to myself of why its ok but infact the opposite! Im hoping the weining off method reduces the W/D's enough to where I can get thru work ok. Im to the point of just being pissed off that Im always broke and its always what Im thinking about! Its gotta stop!

You can do this.  I think a taper is better but others feel cold turkey is the way to go.  I think it depends on your will power or if you have someone to hand out your pills everyday.  I was only up to about 12 Norco a day and weaned fast over one weak and  then stopped and I had very mild WD.  Everyone is different though.  I used the Thomas Recipe.  Good luck!! We are here for you.

Dozer ,welcome to the forum ,and there is hope and freedom from this hideus dissease of addiction You hit the nail othe head when you mentioned 40 pills a day .250 days ago I was taking 30-40 vikes or perks a day.I stopped c/t I did not take off time from work ,I sucked it up and buckled up the ride.I drank about 2-gallons of water a day.Felt like crap, and tryed to stay as busy as possibile.I was getting two scrips a month and spending about 2000 on top of that. my whole live was controled by pills how many I have left, when will I be getting more Do I have enough to get me by.Today life is good and I hardly think about using.I go to A/A and N/A meetings I speak with alot of recovering addicts they are the people that I can relate to ,not the the normal individuales who can have 2-drinks or opiates as directed .I can not identify with any of that crap .good luck my brother I will say a prayer for you

When I was getting clean my blood pressure was sky high.  I would recommend seeing a doctor or some other profesional.  Taking some time off to focus on recovery ain't a bad idea either.  Anything we put before our sobriety we will lose anyway.  Best of luck!!!!  Glad yer here!!

Hi!  Have you read the Thomas Recipe?  It has good info.  Health pages, top right corner of page.  Don't look back.  Just do this.  Don't feel stupid.  Don't count the money.  Don't wallow in this.  Just look ahead!

We'll help you!  There are things you can buy OTC to help!  This is doable, I promise!  A few days off in a row would really help you right now though????

I would say to slowly MAKE yourself taper off of these. Cut it down to 1 pill every 6 hours and make it a regiment. Actually i cant tell you how to dose as i am not a dr, and they dont condone that on this site, but i know it helped me tremendously if i tapered down. I have not yet stopped taking them but plan on it after next week when ill be down to 2 pills a day. What helps me is only taking one when the w/d is bad during the day and then taking only one at night to sleep. Boy o boy these things will control your life big time...what a nightmare it turns into. and it just seems to have happened over night. I hope so bad that you can get this under control.. if you can take a few days off work and get into a nice detox center they can keep you asleep while you w/d so when you wake up its like you never experienced it... Might need good insurance for those nice places though... There are some great recipes on the health pages to help with the w/d and leg pains you will experience... if theres anything else i can help you with keep posting, ill be watching
