New here, Should I start Suboxone

Hi all! I'm new here. So I thought I'd introduce myself real quick first. My name is Nikki, I am a 23 year old wife, and mother of two beautiful boys. One being almost 3, and my youngest will be 6 weeks on Monday :) I have been taking percocets on a regular basis every day for the past 3 years. At first, ya know...a 5 here, a 5 there, then it goes up to a 10, then 2 10's, and so on. So, 3 years later, and I am taking anywhere from 7-15 per day. Depending on really, what's going on with my life at that time, lol. This is an EVERYDAY thing! The only time I've really gone without is when I'm bout out, and I usually go anywhere from 1-3 days without them, but their substituded with a morpfine or something, so I'm not doing serious WD. ANyway, I have a appt in the morning 9:30 am. It's a sppt to get started on suboxone. Now, I have been on here for the past couple of days, reading your all's postings on this. I have really enjoyed reading everything., by the way :) BUT the thing is, I'm scared to start them. I don't want to be "nodding" out or anything, as you know, I have 2 kids, so I can't be completely "loopy". Sounds bad, but with my DOC habit, I'm used to "feeling" a certain way, ya know, there...but kinda, Not in a way. That feeling when you just get so HAPPY you can acheive everything in the world...and you wanna talk to everybody! I don't know, I'm just so very confused! I'm scared to not feel the way I'm used to, ya know? Theres just so much going on in my life right now, it
s just like a mini escape. It makes me feel like I'm so terrible. Well, sorry for this post kinda bein "everywhere" right now, I'm just confused, and have so much to say, just TRYING to make it short. Haha! Thanks everyone! Can't wait to start chatting with you all! :)

short term detox is not for everyone, this is something that should be decided between you and your doctor IF you choose this route.  it is always best to try to get of with a taper of cold turkey first...if you have had many relapses and cant seem to overcome it on your own, then you may need help. finding a good doctor that does individualized care is best, and one that does not charge the outrageous prices that some do, i have a good doc and her fees are easy to pay. short term detox does work, but it is not for everyone. it leaves you as the same person you were, some need long term care and treatment. suboxone should be used as a tool in conjunction with therapy or meetings, simply taking a pill, short term or long term does not fix the problem of why or how you became an addict to begin with, finding out any core issues you might have that led you to addiction is the key and learning new behaviors and having the ability to make major life changes is where you will gain success.
just taking a pill to avoid withdrawals does not work for everyone...
good luck to you and do your research....

I am a doc who has been there. Your DOC is a short acting drug as compared to methadone. therefore, you should be able  to taper completely off  in less than 2 weeks.

docs try to jerk patients around with high fees and high prices for the suboxone. don't let them try to slow taper you over months and monthsSHORT QUICK TAPER.

I KNOW, IVE DONE IT, I PRESCRIBE IT

I think it is a split concensious. I'm not for it  in your case. I think it is for more hard core cases. I would recomend a short inpatient detox fist. Just remember, what goes up must go down. There is no free ride off of narcotic addiction. All the best

I was on the sub for 24 days.  It was way too fast of a taper and I was in terrible withdrawals for 2 weeks.  It is a wonderful drug as far as getting off hydros but hopefully the dr. will give you a good taper plan.  You will feel just like normal on the sub.
I felt just like my old self.  good luck to you and welcome aboard.  Keep posting .

Hi. Been on Subs for a few months. Changed my life , saved my life. Feel great. I would advise you to go to www.****.ort and read posts (patients and doctors). I don't want to scare you because Subs are the best thing that ever happened to me, but you have to realize that they are something you have to wean off of as well and it is not easy. I personally have to look for counseling somewhere as my Sub dr. does not councel me , he just divvies out the pills and takes his $100.00 from me. That is not enough and I realize that now. WE all need  long term care. Please if you find a Sub dr. make sure he/she will help somehow with counseling as well. We all need that as well for long term wellness. It is not a magical pill, it just helped rid me of the need for a high and learn to get away from that need.  Just be careful and read up as much as you can and try to be as educated as you can about Suboxone before you make your decision. There is no easy fix for addiction. We all have to do what we think will work the best for us as individuals.

Hi all! Thanks for all the replies! All your opinions and advice really help me! :) To answer some questions, to Brian..yea, I've tried tapering and cold turkey as well. I know have, like 3 left, when I try to taper the urge is so UNREAL I get sooooo mean and even if I have 1-2 a day. Honestly, for me, it is the mental effects that are the worse, compared to the physical. I just can't deal it seems, and I want to take it out on everybody around me. To Fishmeal, that's great things are working out for you! That really gives me hope :) I think that I am going to go to my appt, see what he has to say. I do not want to start off on an extremely dose, I will tell him that. I don't want to replace one evil with another, ya know? Lol. I just love the way percs make me feel, any other thing I take, even if it's morphine or something, I still don't really like, and it's easy for me to put them down. Well, guys am going to head out with the fam for a bit. Will be back on later to chat! Love, Nikki

Welcome to the forum! Have you tried to taper off of them or go cold turkey at all yet? Suboxone is also habit forming from what I have heard and it has to be tapered also and you will experience withdrawals. I honestly think you should try to taper off the pills first before trying sub. I feel sub should only be used as a last resort. I was mr. mom and caring for my 2 young kids and went through withdrawals. Actually more than once. It's not easy but can be done. At the time I had a 1 year old and a 3 year old. In my opinion I think you should taper or try cold turkey first. I just say this because eventually you will have to go through withdrawals in one form or another. I wish you the best of luck and if you need anything please ask!

Because you have kids, I would Say Suboxone is a good choice....because like Fishmeal said, it will stop the euphoric feeling from other more addictive pills like in your case, the affects of Percocet. you could take 10 Percs at once...if you're on Sub, you won't get any feelin from the Percs. And you won't get too loopy off the Sub...and even if you do it will only last a couple days then you won't feel anything from the Sub. the point of Sub is not to replace an illegal high with a legal high like methadone does....but it's made to block the affects of all opiates so you won't abuse them anymore....Good luck, Peace and love! P.S.  welcome to our community :)

At your level, you have changed your brain's physiology... grown new receptors to play catch with all the opiates thrown at it.  The only experience I have with the sub is getting on it.... I have never gotten all the way off but I am a professional and have turned my life around because of it.  I'm at about 20mgs a day give or take and my body tells me when to go lower.  It's impossible for me to abuse these.  One weird instance, (i've been on for 2 years), I tried to abuse norcos and took four within an hour and felt absolutely nothing.  So that will give you an idea of how powerful this stuff is.  My vote for you is last resort only.  The reason why I've stayed on so long is because of pending litigation that might send me to prison, (DUI).  but you can get on for short period and get off.  I'm hoping that's the case.  there are also chat rooms specific to that drug.
Jim

PS  I don't have to doc shop, buy, and steal for my D.O.C. anymore and that's terrific!

Welcome Nikki, I think taking the sub is a good idea if you can't take the time off to go through w/d's. I have done both types of w/d. C/T and taper. I was able to get clean from both for short periods of time and have relapsed everytime. I to am going to try suboxone. I am going in on Tuesday to get started. All the research I have done and what i have read and been told by everyone here is that it works. Not always so good for everyone but I think if you find the right doctor and work the program right success can be had. For me, I just don't know what else to do. Remember getting clean is the most important thing.
