Newbie who will have to quit someday!!!

I happened upon thsi site and my heart goes out to those trying to stop. For me, the medications work for chronic pain and I have neck, back, hip, and migraine pain, along with seizures, that are incredible and have interrupted my life at work and at home and on vacation. I have been in hospitals in Venice, London, Beijing – you name it for flare ups in pain, especially uncontrollable migraines. The narcotics give me back control over the pain, but at what cost. Sooner or later, the doses will be too high or it will stop working, then I will have to stop the narcotics – not a good thought!! The doses on am on right now are pretty scary and my primary care doctor does not support the pain center’s approach, but he cant provide alternatives. I have tried nerve implants (occipital nerve stimulation) in my skull, BOTOX and every crazy antipsychotic, anti-seizure, anticonvulsive………..Who has stopped and how??? I appreciate this forum and everyones sincere approach to help each other.

I, too, have pain issues. I have been through the botox, which was awful. The regular trigger point shots work much better for me. I go to physical therapy at least twice a week and have a home TENS unit and traction unit. I quit opiates cold turkey in November, 2011 because I was afraid of how much it was starting to take for me to find relief. Some days are worse than others. I just take it one day at a time. Not going to say it is easy because it isn't. Posting here really helped me a lot. That and going to NA.

We're here when you're ready.

Good luck and God bless,

Minn :)

Hey nick.....I can certainly relate to your situation as I have been/am in a very similar situation I was given narcotics for legitimate pain issues and rode that train for many many years...of course my tolerence increased and the meds got stronger and more numerous... and now we can fast-forward to today...I sit here angry and guilty because I failed on the third day of my detox and am starting again to rid myself of the enslavement of opiates.....of course what you choose is your decision, and I certainly am not saying you are wrong to take the meds, but you will either have to take them until you die or at some point you will be where I and many others are or have been....I'll say a prayer for you brother.....peace.....

I feel for ya man, i never had any pain just liked to get high, Someday you'll have to ween yourself off this s h I t cuz it will eventually kill you. I don't know what's worse living in pain or being a drug addict. School yourself on alternatives cuz narcotics are a NIGHTMARE. Good luck.
