I agree it is not a mental disorder..My nephew chewed toliet paper. He would hide the rolls in his bedroom (he was only 5 or 6 yrs old) he did not swallow it..he also would lick his fingers and put them in ashtrays and eat the ashes..My sister took him to several drs. finally found out he was lacking in some minerals and vitamins..Go to the dr. Tell them your problem...bet they have heard it many times. Good Luck

its not actually a mental disorder. they are right pica is the body seekin something it desperately needs. there is a mental aspect but thats comes after the initial problem not necessarily needed to be treated with psych drugs- unless its a life threatening situation. usually it's the body and minds way of saying "hey! i need -blank-" you do need to go see a doctor though- find out what your body is lacking so this does not progress and turn deadly.

um, of course its a mental issue.  No mentally stable person eats newspaper.  Sorry...

Oh my gosh, alka, I remember my late mother doing this! She would tear off strips of newspaper, chew, and swallow the paper 'mush'. It turned out she had a condition called 'pica', and it is your body crying out for some mineral or something you lack. Some people eat dirt, cornstarch, laundry starch, and other sorta disgusting things, but it is definitely not a mental issue. I would check with the doc, tell him/her what you have been doing, and he/she can recommend a vitamin/mineral suppliment to replace the newspaper. Good luck!

I would contact a Psychologist.  This seem more like a mental disorder.

Good Luck!
