Norco 10/350 - 8 per day - Stopping TODAY!!

Okay - I have the same story - 2 years ago I had a back injury. Herniated disc, severe arthritis - went from OTC tyenol to morphine in a week. Nothing helped - then I got the Norco. I was taking 2-3 a day for a year - then actually read the bottle & it said take 1-2 . . .so I started taking 2 at a time - up to 8 per day.

Last week my PCP was out of town & my script wasn't filled. I freaked!! I had my hubsand freaking out too!! He is retired and didn't know what was going on. So we decided over the 3 day weekend I would quit. I got very sick but made it till Tuesday when I caved and took a pill so I could go to work. Then I took 2 yesterday.

We decided I have to stop and so today I called in sick & I am going CT. I found something called the Thompson Recipe - so we just went to CVS and stocked up. I have some Xanax - so I am using that.

I am hoping the 3 days last weekend was the worse part & then next few days will be easier.

I'd appreciate any advice. I am not your typical drug abuser (whatever that is) I am a professional 55 year old women who works full time - happily married and addicated to Norco.

Whoa . . . . .

I laughed out loud when you said "typical drug abuser!" I think you'd find that most of us on here are professional, career-driven, successful wives / moms  / etc. (heck we've even called ourselves Pinterest moms)! Who knows what the "normal" drug abuser is these days.

Good for you for making the decision to quit! I was taking a little more than you per day and, for me, the first 48 hrs were the worst. I lived on the Thomas Recipe (and I'm still taking the vitamins)...it will really help (remember to take them everyday and the L Tyrosine on an empty stomach about an hour before breakfast). I'm excited for you and can't wait to watch you rack up the clean time! Remember to be patient and to take it one day at a time. We're here for you so please keep posting and updating us on how you're doing!

Thanks Happy!!

Hey - I like Pinterest. lol When my hubby said "maybe you're addicted to them" - we both chuckled. ME?? We live in a senior park at the beach - have 2 Shis Tzu's - heck - he's a minister at our church!!

Do I take the L-tyrosine now - or on day # 4?

I am at 24 hours clean - YIPPY - and the xanax is helping.

I'm about your age, own my own successful business, have three kids in college and live in a gated neighborhood - big house. AND I've been using meds for over 15 years, Norco 10's were my fav. When I quit 20 months ago I was using 10 to 12 10's a day.
You said that at one point you caved and took a pill. Does that mean you still have meds around, or have access to them? If you do, flush them now and cut all ties to any source. You are in for a bumpy ride (sorry, have to be honest), and at about day three your head will be screaming at you to take a pill. My detox was hell; but it only lasted for about four days. You can do this; hundreds have. But, again, if you have meds you will relapse. Also, you need to look in to aftercare. NA meetings and the like. This forum is a wonderful place (I've been here from the beginning of my recovery) but you need to be able to talk to real, live addicts, and get a sponsor.  Just my opinion, based on 15 years of failure.

I'd start the L Tyrosine on day 3 (if you're feeling better physically). It really helps get you going / energy-wise.

Yay on 24 hrs! That was the worst w/d peak for me (well through 48 hrs)! You're doing great! Stay close to this forum for support!

Do you have a source? Meds at home? A script?

Kyle - I just read your story and how great is that given how much you were taking that you got thru it and are successfully clean for that long.  Yay YOU!!!

WildeWoman - you are so lucky to have a supportive husband.  I do not have that at all I am sad to say.  Sounds like you are on the right track.  You will find that the Xanax is a huge help!  You are very lucky to have that available to you.  I think you are going to do just great!

Thanks all. The Xanax is really helping - just took a quicj 90 minute nao & I don't feel too bad.

Okay Happy - I will start the L - Tyrozine on day # 3 - that will be Saturday.

Hubby & I went to the CVS & got all the stuff they said - even the "senior vitamins/mineral supplement" - he is so cute - reading all the labels to make sure they have the right stuff.

I was feeling guilty - as I called in sick with flu like symptoms at work & plan on doing that tomorrow as well.

I just have to get off these drugs!!

I probably missed it, but I have to ask again - do you have meds, a source, a script, refill, dealer?
Sorry, I sound like a broken record, but if you have meds available or if they are easy to access then everything that you're doing will be moot. You state that you caved and took pills so I'm assuming that you have them around. This is very important...Something that shouldn't be ignored. Having pills around during detox is especially dangerous.

Kyle is right.  Whenever I have tried to detox and there was a pill around, you might as well forget it.  The pill had my name all over it as soon as I started feeling like crap.

Not to be rude or anything (we care). Kyle has asked you the same question three times and you haven't answered.

Sorry - I was out for a walk with the girls - then took a hot bath.

The "cave" was due to having pills around - so I took them. I realized then that if they were here I would take them - so I tossed them.

Just took my 2 sleepy time pills (OTC from CVS) and feeling tired now. Thanks God!!

Good to hear it. So no other refills, scripts laying around? Friends with pills? If not then the next step is putting up roadblocks - tell your doc, dentist that you're an addict and should be red flagged. Again, if you don't do this you will relapse. Maybe not next week, next month - but you will.
Your head is going to come up with all sorts of excuses not to tell - I'll be embarrassed ; I am a pillar of the community and just can't have my addiction known ; I live in a small town and people will gossip ; what will others think?  On and on. Ive read a whole list of reasons why not on this forum and most of those people are no longer here.

Hi Kylse ~

We do live in a smal town - my husband is a minister at our chruch & I am an executive at 4 hospitals in the area.

I think I have told as many people as I care to at this time. I told my therapist, my hair dresser (yes - we talk a lot) and close friends. For me - for now - that is a great start.

Thanks so much for caring.

I am a runner - so this was a big struggle - now I am home & weak as a kitten.

Check in when you get back - I will be over 48 hours by then!!

You're in a difficult situation and I understand. Believe me, telling my doc was very embarrassing and I was concerned because very few people understand addiction; they've only seen the main liners on TV reality shows.
Telling your hair dresser won't do you much good if and when your head starts and you decide to see your doc about some pain somewhere. Having your doc as a part of the support group is very, very important.
When I told my doc, this is what he replied - "Good for you (for telling him. Very few people can admit that they have a problem, and few still will ever do anything about it".   I'll stop pushing this, but my final comment has to be that if you don't tell your doc, you will eventually relapse.
I only wish you success.

Hi there Wilde,
I am fairly new here too.  Today marks my 12 day clean of 520mg codeine per day for the last 25 yrs. Not to mention anything else that came my way that I could throw down my throat.  I haven't been on here much, not because of w/d's; now it's just that my body and brain are soooo very tired and heavy that it's hard for me to move. So I highly commend all you people who are able to express themselves while going through hell! You as well Wildewoman. Fantastic job so far!

I empathize with you for feeling like you aren't able to expose yourself any more than you already have.  I realize how raw and open to persecution it makes one feel.  We all feel like that no matter what our social status in our community or homes. But in doing so you actually fare far better in your desire to succeed in beating this soul/life sucking beast.

I've been stressing myself last couple of days, I have these thoughts come into my head. e.g. I haven't seen my daughter for a couple of weeks since I started detox so she didn't know I was doing this. She usually brings me some pills when she comes to visit. I'll get her to pick them up or she'll take me out.  Anyway, I was worried that it would be easy for me to just not tell her that I was trying to be clean and what would it hurt if I just........anyway, you get my point I hope. So I've been thinking there's a few people I should tell about this so they don't inadvertently just bring me some not knowing and then I have put myself in a situation in which I have failed so many times before.

All being said, I strongly agree with Kyle and your other supporters as well.  They really know what they're talking about.  And we really all do care as we know how horrible it is.  Many of us unfortunatey have gone through this more than once.  God bless and keep positive. I'll be following and supporting you through. Spider 6, Business Owner, wife, mother, grandmother, artist, gardiner, animal lover and owner, vegetarian, bodybuilder and glad to have as many chances as I've had.  :o}

Thanks All!! I really appreciate all the support.

Just woke up after a 2 hour nap & I  feel much better. Took a Xanax (these are a God send - so thankful I have them)

I am now 50.5 hours clean & doing okay.

Kyle - I feel that I have told as many people as I'd like. For me - this is my personal journey. If I feel like telling others at some point - then I will.

Thank you for respecting that.

Question: Why am I sneezing so much?? WD side effect? Very strange.

More later . . . . . . .

Sneezing is a very, very common W/D symptom.  That is usually the first symptom that shows up for me.

You are VERY lucky you have the Xanax.  I think you are going to do very well.

You sound like you are feeling pretty comfortable (given the circumstances) it could be so much worse.
