Day 20' free at last!

This weekend was a turning point for me. So many things I'd like to say. First to those who have decided to stop the nightmare controlling there life, you can do it. The help the understanding the support of the members on this site is fabulous. Take advantage of this forum during those sleepless nights, the relentless battles going on in your mind, when you're feeling weak n you want it all to go away. Reach out! This too shall pass. 6 years ago started the pain pills for a back injury. 3 weeks ago I decided to stop the pills. It was not a difficult decision I wanted my life back. Without any knowledge of what to expect until I found a site. I thought cold turkey 5 days sick All better and back to work. I was wrong. 4 me it was like 3 phases And all the complications for each. First the detox withdrawals And all the goes with. Day 6 back to work tired and depressed all week. Finally the weekend okay gonna pull it together Next week at work will be okay. Not! Here comes anxiety My mind running like a freight train out of control. Then anger this that is supposed to be over by now. this past thursday and friday I felt those emotions getting less intense. Okay it's saturday morning not feeling too motivated. By this point I figured it must be myself holding me back. So I grab my equipment and did the yard work that's been not done for 3 weeks. Somehow it was like I flipped the switch I was on my game now. Now what's my back gonna be like sunday morning after all that work. Woke up with some really bad back pain After a hot shower Rotating the tylenol and advil. Some more light work around the yard and cooked on the grill Never giving it a thought for anything stronger for my back. Today I'm at work feeling good clear focused alert happy. by no means am I foolish enough to think it's all over.  But being clean and in control of my life is beautiful. Thank you for listening.

Great job!........Iwilldothis....I sooooo agree with your post.....you really have to take steps to make yourself feel better.....even though you just want to sit on the couch.....if you want to get felling better....get up and get moving, I go out everyday and walk/run no matter how I feel.  When I get back I feel so much better!  Exercise is key!  Physically and mentally

So glad you posted this, a lot of times I think we "wait" for sobriety to come, for the physical to be over not realizing the hard work lie ahead.  You don't magically feel better, you don't magically become undepressed - we must take steps each day to push ourselves to that next level (as always in life).  Recovery and sobriety isn't a passive thing, it's getting up when you'd rather veg and MOVE, it's doing all that inner soul searching on why you think you use to begin with.  This was a really great post and I happy to see you are progressing and having those realizations.  My pain is managed now because I actively seek ways to manage it, I've taken the reigns of my health - I am making better decisions, I am strengthening my core, I am educating myself on every possible tool I can use.  GREAT JOB!
