I cannot advise you since I am also looking for answers. I also have an addiction to oxycodone. As of yesterday, I started tapering. I'm writing down time/dose etc. I have been advised to do this by many here because of my age, length of use, and other health issues. (48yo). It is certainly not sure proof but so far so good. Have you heard of Thomas Recipe..which is supposed to help w/ the withdrawal. Scroll all the way down to right hand side: see Health pages. I plan on doing that as well. Many here, immediately go cold turkey. I think an inpatient rehab/hosp. probably the best way for me...let the professionals handle this..I just don't know yet.

Lots of ways to go.....I was in the exact same situation as u several years ago. We all stress that every brains addiction is different. I decided to get on methadone....a decision I severely regret...its perhaps the hardest substance to get off...suboxone is another way to go..it is more expensive than methadone but is covered by most insurance and offers you a fairly normal life, although its more for long term maintenance and is also very hard to get off.
Cold Turkey is theoretically the best way, although I u derstand its prob. Not a realistic option.
The first thing you REALLY should do is begin to taper to a more manageable amount to lessen w/d regardless of which route u take....u can get to 1/2 of what u r currently taking within a few months alot easier than u would expect....
I k ow its not what you want to hear but there is absolutely NO magic way out. Myself, having spent tens of thousands at the methadone clinic, and now more addicted than when I went in, wish so sooooo badly that I had gone to in-patient recovery and taken care of this like I should have. If u have ANY WAY to come up with the money, or can afford monthly payments I would google a local in patient recovery (rehab) because they will safely and with medication to ease w/d pain, get u clean while helping u mentally to deal w/ addictions root cause...whatever they may be. Again if u take anything com this other than STAY AWAY FROM METHADONE it would be that no one has a single answer. Do your homework..talk to people..seek a professional if possible and post as much as u need because it really helps me to post...alot of nice knowledgeable people on here! Good luck n much love!!
