I wouldn't advise quitting oxycontin cold turkey!!!! You will end up with insane migraines eye pain and feel like total ****,also may affect your heart rate. I tried it my self and ended up in emergency. I was told i to see a brain doctor he did an MRI of my brain and  several test. He prescribed me meds for the migraines and told me to wean off the oxy. I was told not to come off oxy in that manor.he told me to come off this medication slowly so i wouldn't put my life in danger

I gotta say i am one of those suboxon believers  . 360mill of oxy a day  4 Subs later did not get even the smallest wd symptom and the Sub narcotic is non addictive , It cannot get you high becuase of the make up of the drug and how it does not match receptors in your head . helps the cravings and also is a opiate blocker to stop a small mess up . Ask a doctor in you area about it . Me and about 10 of my freinds love it and swear by it       miracle pill          ***@****

hi i'm 13 days off methadone and i i gotta tell ya it's the worst thing i've ever come off. i have tryed many diffrent tapers. not many addicts can do it by themselfs.after all we are addicts.for me taking less. taking diffrent kinds,or doing anything to make it easyer drags it on. for me the easyer the wd the harder the paws.i feel if your healthy. ct is the fastest way back on your feet. for me.whan your sick this is hard to hear but truth be told w/ds is easy part. anyone can get clean it's staying clean thats hard. ive gone though w/ds just so i could get high again.what have we changed about areselfs that will keep us clean?don't go though w/ds for nothing have a plan for paws. like meeting. groups whatever works for you.and remember what did not work for you. gods always ready to help. god bless. and good luck

When I weened to 7 - 5mg/day I couldn't take it anymore.  Definitely not enough to get a buzz and not enough to help with the pain.  I was going thru brief periods of W/D several times a day.  That was Bull****.  Stopped the Oxy c/t and used Tramecet for about 3 weeks and then quick that c/t too. I am now 20 days clean and have some good and some bad days - but at least they are not ALL bad days as it was when I could only use 35mg/day.

I know you can quit - keep weening if that works or talk to your doc about quitting and how he can help.

I hate to contradict Cathy but Tramacet (Tramadol + acedaminaphine) worked for me.

I was down to 40mg/day from a high of 120mg/day about 2 months ago.

Once I was down to 40mg/day I always felt terrible and craved more oxy, so asked for Tramacet (a friend suggested it) and I have not used an oxy since.  After 18 days of Tramacet I quit cold Turkey( bad withdrawls for 3 days) and I am now 8 days clean of all opiates.

I still have a long way to go but it was the short change to Tramacet that has worked for me so far.

I would never recommend anyone to quit cold turkey. it is dangerous and pretty bad withdrawl. The vicodin is easier to quit i think than the oxy. And then tapper off that??
Your body adusts to it easier and the withdrawl is lighter and drawn out instead of all at once. Have you ever tried cold turkey?

oh holly, becareful of the tramadol...many here have been addicted to it and the w/ds are said to be worse than oxy....just wanted to make you aware of the.  i went c/t off oxy, i was a snorter....i agree that clonidine will help ya...i didnt have it but nmany here say it makes a huge difference.  reality is that the physical w/ds are over in a bout a week.  you can endure for a week to get your life back...after the first week its mostly lack of energy and sleep...at least it was for me.  you can do this....i know you can...

Well,, I don't think there is necessarily a "best" way...each and every person is differnet and for some, ct is better then any other way. Look up Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Therapy...They will help with the home detox. However, good luck to you and stay with us....

I answered your other post - please read it.  It would help for us to know how much Oxy you have been on.   It is rather difficult to taper on Oxy because the minimum size is 10 mg and many take 40s or 80's.  So, your degree of difficulty will be dependent on how much you were taking for that 2 years.  The main thing right now is not to live in fear --- the folks on this site will help you.  Give them something to work with - tell us about yourself - it will help greatly if you keep posting- you will find help and compassionate here - not judgment or condemnation.  best to you.

Don't do it completely cold turkey. Go to your doctor or a treatment center and at least ask for Clonidine, and maybe something for anxiety. Niether are opiates and will help a lot.

If you really don't want to see a doctor. Check out the Thomas Reciepe listed on the bottom left of the forums page....it is a home remedy list for withdrawal symptoms. It can help as well.

How much OC are you currently taking btw?
