Pain meds

Hello people , this is my first post . I was taking vicodin 10/325 (norco) for about six months and I stopped for a while . I started taking them about a month ago and now they are giving me anxiety . I have been taking them for a month now .I would take two to three a day . I stopped for a day and felt kinda sick . I know about W/D`s but it was more like a mild flu. What I would like to know people is how long will it last at this low does ? And what else might I expect from this devil of a drug !

All I can say is otc meds Advil would be the best after a surgery cause it is an antinflamatory. Sometimes doctors will prescribe up to 800mg, I you don't take tramadol, then the might prescribe Tordol which is also a pain med. it is not a narcotic and it will mess up your stomach if you try to take to much.  It is effective at pain relief but not sure of the addictive end of it.

Regarding non-narcotic pain relievers, if anyone (especially a doctor) offers you Tramadol, just say no thanks.  It behaves like a narcotic, is not very effective against pain, and is quite addictive, although many docs don't know that.

Thanks guys .To answer the question if they are prescribed , yes they are .I had knee surgery and am probably going to have one more . I can't believe how all of a sudden these pills just turned on me ! I am really kind of scared that I did some kind of damage to my brain . I took them for six months before and when I stopped I felt sick about a day and a half and then it was gone and I was fine . Now only after a month I feel ill my head hurts and now the anxiety . What the heck happened ? Also can you guys recommend any NON- Narcotic pain reliever that really works ? Thanks people .............................................                             Scared in L.A.     (Jim)

Hey,
Congratulations on your decision to stop. That was a good first step. As far as how long t ill last----thats a tough one to answer because we are all different. I know for me that the severe w/d stuff has been very tough and has lasted for about 7-8 days! Thats just the bad stuff, the sleeping problems has been since day one and continued until present. I was taking 20+ Norco 10/325 per day and have been tapering myself down to my present level of 4 per day. I won't lie to you,it will be tough but it sounds like your habit hasn't been that bad so maybe, just maybe nether will your withdrawal, but expect the worse and hope for the best. Regardless of what you experience with w/d,push through and stay strong and if you really want to quit taking them you will. Afterall,it's up to you but we are here to help you. Continue to read the posts here and all around Medhelp. These folks are very knowledgeable and extremely supportive. So lean on us anytime......

Yeah the anxiety that you talk about is a problem that I had as well, and for me was a big deal. I would have panic attacks for no obvious reason and since I have tapered down to my current level,I have quit being so anxious,so that may help you with yours as well.

Have a good weekend and I am here if you need me.

It seems like you were not taking alot each day.  I was taking about 10-12 a day and yes I felt like I had a bad case of the flu. It lasted about 3-7 days for me.  I think days 2-3 felt like the worst but had different symptoms as the week went on.  Just anxiety itself was hard for me.  Then the nausea and diarrhea, headache, RLS, body aches, chills was what I experienced.  Hopefully it won't be as bad for you  since you were only taking 2-3 a day.  I wish you the best of luck

Hi! welcome to the board :) are you prescribed the meds? Do you want to stop them? Like you said they really are a "devil drug".  If you do want to stop I would stop now while your dose is still low.  You are posting here so I'm kind of assuming you want to stop? If you've already stopped and it felt like a mild flu then you are probably through the worst of  it already.

again welcome to the board :)
