My husband has been on methadone for pain for the past 14 years.  His dose was 120 mgs also.  I'm sure he can relate to you in that he wants off the methadone too.  He's gained about 50 pounds from the methadone and he has to wear a CPAP every night too.  He never snored in his life until the day he started on methadone.
It sounds to me that you tried to get off the methadone too fast.
Is there a reason you need to get off it so fast?
I've been reading this forum for the past couple months and following the stories of several people as they detoxed off methadone.  It wasn't easy, but they did it.  From my reading, it seems that you'll have much more success if you take your time.  I found an excellent article called  "Nutrition and Opiate Withdrawals" on this web site written by Dr. David Arneson.  He suggests what supplements can help you and gives a time table for getting off methadone.  He says that once you're under 100 mgs you should reduce your dose by no more than 2 mgs per week until 50 mgs.  then 1 or 2 mgs per week every other week.  You can read the whole article by typing Arneson in the search box and scrolling down to "Journals" and you will see that the article is in FlAddict's journal.
There was a girl - Penelope14- who just finished detoxing from methadone and she did it very slowly.  Another couple - Feohmoon- also successfully detoxed from methadone.  They did it faster and went cold turkey when they hit 7.5 mgs.  All of them used supplements to help them through it.  You could also benefit from reading the Amino Acid Protocol and the Thomas Recipe.  You can usually get to them by clicking on the "Most Viewed health Pages" on the right side of this page.
My husband has reduced his dose to 90 mgs over the past couple months.  I know he'll have trouble cutting down by such small increments because he gets his methadone in pill form from a pain management clinic.  They're tiny little 10 mg pills.  So far he's doing okay but I've read that it doesn't get that hard for a lot of people until they get down below 30 mgs.
Another alternative I've been reading about is Suboxone.  It takes the place of the methadone and I think it works for pain.  I've read that if you're switching over from methadone they like you to be on a lower dose (below 30 mgs) before making the switch.  You also have to wait a couple days and start to go into withdrawal before you start the suboxone.  But here, once again, you're just subsituting another drug for the methadone, although it's not as hard to withdraw from as the methadone.
Anyway, I really think you would benefit from reading that article.
Hope this helps.

he gave you methadone because its pain aspect lasts alot longer then perc and doesnt need to be dosed as much. However its alot harder to deal with when coming off. Extended release morphine might be a much better choice for you. My father is on them for a severe arm injury and it seems to do the job.
