Pot for w/ds?

Has anyone tried using pot to ease withdrawal symptoms from opioids? I have a friend who said it helped quite a bit. I know it's not exactly legal, but anything to get us back to normal, right? Anyone with experience in that?

I tried that once when I was in really bad w/d and I don't smoke pot let me tell u it FREAKED me out and sent me into the worst panic attack of my life!!!  Since then I've never done it again.  I just don't care for the feeling. But I've never been so scared in my life.

I disagree w/most everyone who just posted! lol. I don't smoke weed, but i don't believe it makes you bad if you do. But, the first time i quit vicodin, i did try to smoke a little and i swear it made things soooooo much more worse and intense! It made it to where all i could do is think about my W/D's. lol....It sucked!!!!

ok, my opinion and experience with it  from last year when i quitted first time...i used it for the same purpuose and yeah, you get stoned so you can sleep and don't feel  a lot of anxiety  while smoking it,  but the effects didn't  last long  and it was too quite an uneasy broken and even paranoid sleep, if you let me tell you). I also noticed after smoking that  my cravings  where .. well ...CRAZY and huge... so it was a love and hate use during those days for me.

and, guided by my intuition i stopped using it after two or three weeks because of these crazy cravings. Soon after, i read a really good article about detoxing from cocaine in a well considered clinic , people there were told that hash/maría (pot) were out of the list for a very good reason: it interferes directly with the part of our brain where willpower can be found , the nucleo accumbes ( in my words but that was the reason ) . Humm, I thought it was  a very good reason trusting from my experience with those cravings. :).

so it's not only because of the other reasons you've already been told but also because  placing our  already fragile willpower at the highest risk is the least intelligent thing we can do .

Now i'm using valerian root for anxiety and sleeping and it's working much, much better....there are other stufff you could use instead of  pot, sure  (  and no jail, no bigger cravings than those "normal" when detoxing, no trading, clever choices.., etc,.,.). Have a look at the amino acid protol or some old threads where you could find better choices.

hope i've  helped you with your question. good luck, : )

I'd like to express this in a different way, but trading one drug from another will not answer the problem, esp. with pot as it is illegal and look at the consequences you could face if you did get caught trying to find it or if it was on you.

If you are in the process of w/d, please look for other ways to cope with w/d symptoms. Talk to a doctor or a medical professional that specializes in the w/d process of whatever you are w/d from and there are so many other resources, the internet, books, etc., and while you are w/d there are other ways to cope with the worst parts. Yes, it's no walk in the park and often the main reason why many people continue thier addiction but you have to believe in yourself and be strong. After the w/d you will feel so much better and you are making a new start in your life. A positive, drug free start.

Don't trade one drug for another! Even if it was legal it's not worth taking on another addiction! ESPECIALLY one that could land you in jail!

Your right it is not legal. Its also totally addictive behavior the whole idea is to work on getting clean not substituting one drug with another.
