Day 3

I am on day three from a withdrawl from hydrocodone. I just have realized over the last couple of months that they have turned into a lifestyle rather than pain management. I would say that i have been taking them heavily for about 5 months now. I stopped taking them friday night and had sat and sun to detox, it was the worst feeling i had ever felt. body aches, the feeling that i wanted to crawl out of my skin, emotions, suicidal thoughts. Does anyone know how long this with last? I am at work right now and i am fighting to urge to go to one of my friends that i know will have some and just ask for a couple so i can feel motivated enough to work. I was taking up to 8 7.5mg per day. i have read all over the internet that weening yourself off is the best way to go, will taking a couple today just put me back to square one? someone please offer advise, i have no one to turn to. i am not close with my family and i have no friends where i live. I reloacted for a new job and feel alone. PLEASE, any advise you can offer.

i guess my biggest question is, if i take a couple today to make numb my nerve pain. will that start me over in the detox process? please someone tell me that knows, not what you think will happen. i want to know from expierience. I am having a hard time deciding right now what is worse, the pain in my back and down my legs, or being set back a couple days. I know i wont take over a couple because i wont have access to more than that.

I have to say that in my opinion the person above who advised you to take some to taper down was dead wrong.  The first three to four days are the worst and you're already on the third...why start over again??

While I have read posts on here from people who say that tapering worked very well for them I can say without doubt that it would never have worked for me.  The physical withdrawals going cold turkey are rough for 3-4 days and then get noticeably better each day.  By the 8th, 9th or 10th day many people are feeling very little in the way of wds.  Definitely by days 12, 13, 14 the physical parts of the wd's will be gone.

Tapering instead means that you will go through lesser withdrawals over a longer period of time.  The longer and slower the taper the easier the wds' but the longer you have to deal with them.  Many of us just aren't capable of being disciplined in our drug use.  Personally if I had any pills I'd take them.  I might have been able to do the taper for a few days but never long enough to complete it.

All the above being said each person has to do what works for them and I wish you all the luck.  Keep coming here and posting and reading posts either way.  It really helps.

Congrats on 3 days! Stay strong thought!! You're almost through the worst physical part and I know it ***** but you can do it!! The physical wds usually only last 3-5 days so you're almost there!

Honestly, can you think 1 or 2 is okay at this point? That's the kind of thinking that leads to relapse! Weening is hard since we can't keep it to 1 or 2. Take a walk on you lunch break, exercise is so important at this point! Grab some immodium for your tummy, and keep drinking water/Gatorade/vitamin water.

You can do this!!! Keep your chin up and your heart open!

Sounds like you having a hard time... I wish I could say that its gonna go away quickly, but that's not gonna be the case with  this, sorry!

Do you have any meds left - that you could use to taper down?  That really helped me. Break the pills in half and figgure out much you've got and your body will adjust. with time.

There is LOTS of good advice on here and many many people that have gone thru everything that you are feeling. Myself included.

I've been tapering for a week and on day 2 of no pills.
I'm not gonna sugar-coat it and tell you that I feel wonderful, but I will say that I feel stronger knowing that I'm making the right choice!

Good luck to you...good luck to us all!
