Exhausted and need advice please.

I don't like putting my business out there but I need some advise on what to do about my son. Shortly after I suffered a stroke and a brain aneurysm my son got involved with the wrong crowd and became hooked on drugs and alcohol. I know he used meth, marijuana, cocaine and alcohol. He moved back home with me and seemed like he was getting better but never would accept any help to get off of the drugs and alcohol. Recently I told him that he is not allowed here anymore if he had to come to my home high and wreaking of alcohol. He lies frequently and has been to jail 3 times. He has no job and has started panhandleing on street corners. He is sleeping on the streets and spreading lies to people saying that I don't care about him and kicked him out because I am crazy after my brain surgery. Family members stole money from me after I became ill and they have talked him against me also. I stopped all communication with them. My son is a very talented hip hop dancer and have won many awards. His appearance changed dramatically and he becomes violent and verbally abusive when under the influence. I have offered to take him to get help but he won't accept it. Because he has a learning disability I am afraid that someone will take advantage of him and hurt or kill him in the streets. I can not believe how he how has changed. Especially panhandleing.  I am so embarrassed that he is out there begging for money. Someone told me that I need to get a chemical dependency warrant to have him picked up and taken to a hospital rehab to get help. Does anyone know how this works? I really need to get him some help soon. He is my only son and my heart is broken. I try my best not to worry, but it is hard. Why is he doing this? I just want him to have a normal life like every other 24 yr old. I want him to go to college and get a good job, marry and settle down with kids someday. I am open to any good advice.

If you can get him off the streets that would be the thing to do most of the time you have to prove he has a disability that will cause him to hurt himself.  If that is the case then you can get him picked up by the police and brought to you. Then maybe he will get help.

I feel very bad for you.  I couldn't find out very much info on a chemical dependency warrant but did find out info about a mental health warrant.  Why don't you ask your son to come and live with you under the condition that he goes to rehab first? I can imagine how much this must be breaking your heart since he is your only child.  You want him to go to college?  How would he pay for it?
