Hi Texoma,

Rapid detox is quite controversial and I would not recommend it.  About 1 in 500 - 1000 die from this procedure because anesthesia is used.  It is also a huge shock to your system.  I have talked to a few people on this website who went through RDD and it was horrible for them.

On the other hand, I did some extensive research on RDD and found something that is similar, but not as harsh as RDD.  It is Accelerated Detox.  The difference is rather than taking 8 hours to detox, the process takes place over 3 - 8 days, depending on the opiate you are trying to get off of.  I went through this type of detox for Suboxone, which takes much longer to get out of the system, so it was 8 days.  You are kept comfortable on meds to treat withdrawal symptoms and given narcan every day in increasing doses.  Then on the last day, you are sedated - not put under anesthesia - and the rest of the opiates are flushed from the system.  Accelerated detox is much better tolerated and it worked great - I have been clean nearly 11 months.  I went through it in Richmond VA, the same doctor also has placed is Chicago and out west.

I just noticed comments by chemister above - I went to the same place as HealthySquid.  Check it out and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

I agree with "bmdad" I have been 2-3 years at one detox center in Norway and stay clean for
5 -10 years. My problem is that I start with the methadone/morphine when I get very ill after Hep C treatment. I will also take Low dose naltrexone.

20 years ago I stop with heroine maybe 10 -20 times and start again 10 days later. You will need therapy to stay clean. Believe me....and if you need something to stay clean so is Subutex better choice than methadone.

Hello, I am from Norway and want to try to stop with methadone and benzodiazepines.
I asked people from this forum, and also some from Norway which try this in England or Spain. All people have told me they were angry after the detox, and waste of money.
I talk with 2-3 people who have tried Accelerated detox (Sent by HealthySquid)      The website is: http://www.thecolemaninstitute.com/
I maybe want to try this myself. I use 150 mg methadone each day, and I want to stop. And will contact the place after me stop with benzo and taper down the methadone to maybe 50-100 mg? Good luck  

Have you considered going to inpatient rehab? It would be much cheaper and also have a much higher chance of success. That is if you stay their as long as they recommend. You can't leave in 5 days and think you are cured. You have to seek aftercare no matter which method you decide to do. Trust everyone when they say getting clean is the easy part, staying clean is the hard part. It doesn't matter how you get clean. The first week or two is by far the easiest. After that is when the real fight begins. Most can make it through this physical part without relapsing. Once the mental part kicks in is when we are the most vulnerable.
If you want to try and do this on your own we can help you through. Have you tried to taper off of your meds? I have tapered in the past and felt little to no withdrawals. It does take some major willpower though. There are also vitamins and supplements that can help. Your doctor can also prescribe some meds like clonodine to help.
Either way be sure to stick around so you have a place for support 24/7.

It's going to be very hard to find someone on here who has been to the place you are talking about. Most people that come on here are currently trying to beat their addiction. There are some on here that are now clean but most have done it on their own or went to rehab. I think you will have better luck doing a specific search on the net. I searched for rapid detox in Michigan and did find this blog.

http://www.rapiddetox.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=18

Try the same search and you will find other topics.

Be sure to stick around this forum for support even after you go through the rapid detox if you choose to do so. This forum is full of support and great advice.

Best of luck to you!
