Gabapentin alone can be very tough to withdraw from. I am no doctor but given the severity of your pain, I would say definitely continue with either the gabapentin or the opiates for a while if you can afford to do so. I am so so sorry.

Hi I was reading your post, I am so sorry to hear about all your surgeries and pain. About the bmp1 off label use and having problems are you retaining an attorney? Seems like a good option, maybe your pain is caused by that off label use which could be the responsibility of the physician or medical company.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your situation is pretty complex. The medications you are on really should be tapered under a doctors supervision. Especially the Gabapentin. You say you have lost your insurance. Do you live in the US? If so have you tried to seek insurance through the Affordable Care act, and through the health care exchanges? I really think this is your best option that I can see.

I wish you the best, and please keep posting with any questions and to let us know how you are doing. Take care!

Hi and welcome to the forum
Wow, you really have been through a lot.  How are you possibly going to manage your pain without any medications?
In my opinion with all of your health issues you should do a taper from these meds under a doctor's supervision.
Is there any way that is possible?

I broke my back 6 yrs ago. Since then I've had 4 failed back surgeries . One resulting in a Mrsa infection in the surgical site that damn near killed me but the worse thing is the Dr. On the last surgery used a product called bmp2 off label to try and grow bone and it leaked. It has grown bone from my spine to my hip and is forcing one of the rods up and out. Seen multiple surgeons locally and sent records to everywhere from Cleveland clinic to Vanderbilt and no one knows what to do. I have an extreme amount of pain from this to the point of needing assistance to get out of bed. I have 70% nerve damage in my leg from this as well that's where gabapentin came into play.

I can live a decent life with the meds. Keep my grandchildren etc... Had never thought about needing to reduce, increase anything. I felt like I had finally gotten where the pain was managed and I could at least have a life. Things changed when my insurance was canceled. I never knew that I would have this type of reaction withdrawing from medications. Especially the gabapentin. I have no choice but to deal with life without medications and really since finding out what happens when you can't buy them I don't want to keep taking them.

I need to know am I at risk of anything physically happening from stopping medications so quickly. I don't want to have a heart attack or end up in a psych ward from anxiety. The pain is worse than anything else but if its something I need to deal with then I will adapt. Should I buy one medication ? Without gabapentin I have electrical , burning , shocking sensations from hip to toe in one leg and without the pain meds my low back pain is so bad it's hard to function.  Should I buy one of the three meds and only withdraw from two then slowly decrease the one I purchase? If so which one?

Going to need more info. Are you taking them meds and trying to quit? How long? how much? What's going on?
This is a great place to get support while quitting.
It's slow right now cuz it's late.
