Ready but scared

I have been smoking cigarettes for 11 yrs about now. I want to quit but everytime I have attempted quitting before I got flu like symptoms until I smoked a cigarette. I am scared to quit also because I don't know what I will do without my cigarettes, when I am stressed I smoke, when I finish eating I smoke, when I wake up and before bed I smoke, so on and so on. What is it going to be like when I quit? I feel l will be lost.

hi there...quitting smokes is very hard...i have tried numerous times only to pick them up again...i think the best way is to taper...allow yourself so many a day, then cut down the next day and so forth...maybe just hold one but don t light it up.  i never did get sick when i quit but was very nervous.  there is also a pill you can take but i heard bad things about it.  yeah...nothing like a cig after food, waking up etc....it s hard but many people do it everyday...good luck to ya...maria

well i quit smoking many years ago. hate to tell you but i felt sick too. i had this horrible cough and like a cold for about a year. it took a few years until i felt sooooo clean.

and then when my kids were getting all grown, i started up again.  stupid!! and now it is like 10+ years i have been smoking. i just don't feel like being sick for along time again.

i have been thinking though, that maybe we could speed up the sick time by doing a really good detox when we quit. yes- it will feel like **** but at least we would finally be quit.
thanks, you have given me something to think about..........
