Recovery from heroine use

My niece is living with me. She is 22 years old. She was on heroine since 18 and then on methodone the last year.  She has been using "drugs" since she was 14. She was put in jail for domestic assalt and detoxed for 18 days while in jail.  She has a previous history of severe depression/anxiety disorder since a child and was on medications/therapy for this when in high school.  She has been "clean" for 40 days.  She is seeing a psych. and we are working on her mental health using medications which has helped.  She will also be seeing a therapist weekly.  Her strength has been amazing. Here is my question.  She has a made up "boy" in her head that she thinks she saw in jail.  She also thinks he visits the neighbors and talks to her in my home.  She can hear him on the other side of the fence.  She is haunted by people who can read her thoughts and play them back to her fast forwarded and in slow motion.  She's confused.  We're all trying to help her.  Is this part of the herione/methadone recovery or is this another mental health issue?

I am so very sorry  for your niece and you as well......  what she is experiencing is not,  or in most cases, not associated with w/d from drugs.    I am the mom of a daughter, now 22yrs old,  that has gone thru w/d and rehab more times than I care to remember,  due to  a very serious opiate addiction.. Unfortunately I have a lot of first hand experience,  and I never saw that type of behaviour from her, she did detox at home a few times,  and I saw her during any and all inpatient detox.    Please call  your niece's psychiatrist  as soon as possible.   And I hope also  that you get help and support for yourself.   I truly  do know what you are going thru, and how heartbreaking it is to so many in your family.

Please send me a msg if I can answer any questions, or help you in any way......   God bless you  and hold her in his arms.

Hi,

What you are describing is NOT a part of heroine/methdaone withdrawal. I was on heroin for some 20 or more years and never experienced any of what you described. There is something else going on.

Please get her in patient treatment, after being evaluated properly.

My heart breaks for all of you and I wish you the best.
