Thanks for the heads up... like you say though, every place is likely different? It's a good thing though
As theeagle said they are all different. I went to detox but previously did an outpatient rehab. The detox I went to did have a daily routine. were woke up at 7am for breakfast to start the day. Lights out was at 10:30pm. You were not forced to go to the groups, however I wanted to get as much out of it as i could so I went to them. Our DOC is only 10% of our addiction....the other 90% is how we deal with life and stressful situations. I saw my doctor every day I was there, and my social worker every day for the first 3 days. We were allowed to smoke at designated times, and the food was good. We didn't eat food on the unit (besides snacks/fruit etc) we went as a group to the cafeteria and had two choices of entree plus a nice sized salad bar.
Was a little anxious the first several hours, then you realize everyone in there has one very big thing in common. People were very friendly, introduced themselves within an hour of me being there. Many of the staff members are recovering addicts themselves. Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs.
Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff.
Hope this helps? I'm really glad you are going
I must have been in a decent rehab, because when I was in 20 years ago (for alcohol and drugs) I liked it so much that I didn't want to leave....truth. When I walked through the doors I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders. They will keep you comfortable while you detox then they will get you up and your days will be quite full.....group therapy, individual therapy, classes, journaling and meetings (AA and/or NA). You'll also have some free time. I liked some of the other patients very much...and most of the staff. You'll have a time to get up, a time to eat and a time to go to bed. Their rules are their rules and you have to go by them. I didn't find them difficult to follow at all although some did.....that's part of addiction.....control. You'll just need to open your mind and let go of all control and listen and learn what they give you. The tools they give you are priceless. I was able to stay clean for 18 years....I started using pills again 2 years ago, but not alcohol...thank God! I don't remember the food being awful.....we were also able to get snacks. You are very lucky to be able to go in....take everything you can from it....and the best of luck!
Thanks for your support and positivity, and I need it as much as possible, I have posted a message on the guestbook area of the facility I am going to, just to see if anyone can try to explain what I am about to do.
With any luck you will be going to a place that has hit the happy medium. Good structure and knowledge with enough free time to take care of personal business but not enough to bore you. And serve good food!! Best of luck to you - - you are so correct in saying it will kill you if not addressed. That is exactly what the addiction monster is out for - - your very life and your eternal soul. Keep yours, my friend. Really glad that things can work out for you. Stay strong - - - - good luck to you also - - -
Well I have quit and then relapsed too many times now, I feel that this is my final option on life. It will kill me if I keep going the way I was. I am not sure which of those two options the place I am going to has. Not sure which one I would prefer? I am hoping though that they at least give you some free time how ever?
The people that have experience tell me that they are all different. My perception is that they would be similar to basic training if that helps. Some are structured and have meetings all day and serve terrible food. Some have not much structure and you have excess free time and get bored. And they serve terrible food. One has good food. Best of luck to you...................this is really a serious thing..your real life is at stake.......
