You have got to want it...

I am on day two of coming off five Vic a day. I really feel like I have been hit by a truck but I am keeping positive! In my six year addiction I have ct wd many, many times and this would be the stage where I would start scrambbling to get pills but as TATTOO 67 said " I am going to work as hard to stay clean as I did to get high"

Does anyone have NA experience? I don't want to walk in there addicted to vicos taking five a day and not feel welcome or that I belong....

Hello, joan, addiction, especially to prescription pain-meds is in some cases like a doubled edge sword, especially if we have a cronic/acute pain problem.even when i take pain pills,in my case Percocets.the best way is to detox, and then you can truly evaluate yourself. 5-pills are still noticeable to others,we are verbose, and our eyes are pinned. We are only prolonging our addiction. Its no better than an alcoholic drinking 3-beers and thinking hes making progress.Joan when we cross that invisible -line there is no moderation.we can control, but not every time we use,and that is the difference between addiction and prescribed use all the best john

Thanks for the shout out.  I am working as hard as I can to stay clean.  I started going to N/A for the first time on Friday and have made 2 meetings and I plan to go today as well.  I have found them nothing but welcoming.  As far as using goes as long as you not disrupting the meeting or bringing drugs into the space they just want you to show up.

I quit drinking at the age of 22 and stayed sober for 20 years with A/A.  Unfortunately after 5 years I stopped going to meeting and then 3 years ago I picked up a pretty bad pill habit.  The only thing I can tell you is listen and do what they say at the meetings.  Try to volunteer to make coffee of set up chairs it forces you to show up even when you don’t want to.  You can do this you just really have to want it.  I have 11 days today and that all I can count on.  I don’t know what tomorrow will bring or if I can stay clean forever.  I focus on today and what I can do to keep my self Sober for today.   It really is one day at a time.  Best of luck to you.

If you dont have time to be sick then make the time to be well~~Hit up some meetings, you can just sit there and listen.  You will be surprised to hear them telling "your" story, only the names are different~~sara

YOU got to want it and want it bad......there is no 1/2 a s sed way of doing this ether your all in for the whole program or your wasiting time and energy....detoxing is just the beginning to the end getting vclean is the ez part its staying that way that takes work you need a solid aftercare pan in place both N/A and A/A offer great programs one of the thins I always say is you have to be willing to give up ALL persons places and things to make this work let one of those sled and your right back at it just ask harperC  this is very doable and there are all ready people that have blazed a path to success ....you have to ask yourself do I follow a proven path or do I learn from the school of hard knocks I take sobriety very seriously it is not a game we play to get high it is a mather of life or death today perscription drugs a killing more people then heroin cocaine and meth combined if O/Dinog dont kill you you have a slow and agonizing death of kidney failure or liver failure to look forward to this game is for keeps take it with seriousness or it will overwhelm you this may be your only chace to get off the mery go round b/4 it kills you so make what your doing couunt just today we had a post of a young man who payed the ultimate price ....all just to get high.......Gnarly

Just go Joany, nobody expects new  people (hopefully members) to be clean.
That's like expecting people walking into the church for the first time not to be a sinner.

The principle is the same:
It is the sinner that comes to the Lords church to hear the word of the lord,

It is the addict that walks into the N/A meeting to learn how to get and stay clean.

The church should no more be a museum of saints, than the N/A club be a museum of ex addicts. Neither will survive without new members

NA meeting would only help you and having support help you stay clean. Good luck to you and you will feel so much after the withdrawals!!! It was a relief for me that I no longer had to worry about running low on pills. Stay strong!!!

Joan- They really want you to be fairly straight at the meetings. That's all they ask. It's obvious now to most of us when someone else is wrecked.  So...that's all and it's the same with AA.  I have never been a drinker but I have gone to many AA meetings and have been accepted by the folks. Do the best you can. But,what are you saying here? Do you think that 5 a day is like a baby addiction?   The only way is to just go and listen for the first few times. You'll get the picture...it will be fine.  You'll feel great(I hope) when you leave the meeting.
