Should I go into detox program

So my tapering is going pretty well I hope to be down to 2 40 mil oxy pills today with no percocets In fact I am determined to get down to two 40 mill oxy pills today with no percocets.  So I am actually ahead of the schedule I set for myself.  I called a private facility today he recommended a place in florida that can have me clean and comfortable in a week and it's a price I can easily afford.  Should I continue tapering myself and try to do it without help or should I just spend the money and go to the detox in florida?  I have tried local programs and even my own doctor has just shrugged his shoulders at me not knowing what to do with me. I was hoping to get a doctor locally who could put me on a taper program and follow my progress but that has been impossible to find.  So should I do it myself or pay to have it done for me?

kajama! reading your posts , you remind me alot of me being your a mom and involved in / grew up in a good wholesome christian enviroment, sheltered and how u got addicted and thought u were alone. i didnt ever think i would be an addict it just happened and not to get high, to control pain that led to dependancy. im intrested in getting help. i want to do it on my own but its hard and if i cant im taking steps to learn how to take steps and learn my options. i took two steps so far, i admitted to myself that i have a problem and i am an addict even though it was a shocking quick unplanned reality, i panicked and made my situation worse and now i have to make the situation better. ive reduced my dosage and the second step i took was today when i signed up here for support and direction. you are the first ive posted a comment to. im using mobile version on my cell so im not on the full site and not sure how to add friends but would like to be yours. how much does it cost for rapid detox? how does it work and do u have any advice for me for what road to recovery i should take. if i cant wean off alone im considering rapid detox, methadone clinic, subtex-suboxone, or a rehab. im afraid of withdrawls. ive had them and its the scariest thing ever. i fear death and i want to be monitered while detoxing incase something goes wrong.

hey there :)  Im not sure what I would do in that situation.  Wonder why they say 5-7 when the site says 14??  I would call and ask about that ahead of time?  You are right though, eventually you will have that last pill and the w/ds will start.  If you think rehab will help, they can help you go thru the w/ds easier than you doing it, i am sure, then go.  Whichever way you think will be easiest to you, and less painful I would imagine in rehab.  Can you take a week off work with no problems?  Where are you located in US?  This is a difficult decision, but if I had the money and time from work, I would probably go to rehab.  They can set you up for aftercare too, but this is just me and my opinion.
Great luck to you in whichever you decide, and please keep us posted!
Hope you are feeling good today

I've had a few bad days since my taper began and I have never went for a pill because of it. As calming as the pills are if it wasn't for the wd symptoms I would have gotten rid of them all. My concern is am I ripping. Band aid off slowly with the taper and suffering alotvmore thn if I just rip it off and face the rls in detox wher I will have help. My taper is going well I am ahead of my goals and haven't had any major setbacks.  However I know with the taper eventually u have to stop conmpletely and no matter how low I can taper to it's gonna be really tough when I take that last pill. Will I regret suffering slowly and end up in detox anyways wasting a month or so of torturing myself slowly. This is a hard decision. I went on their website and it says 7 to 14 days for detox so are they lieing to me about five to seven.  Money isn't the issue for me it's time away from work which is hard. I can do the taper but I'm impatient and keep thinking why nit just get it over with and fly to florida. This is a hard decision any and all feedback is greatly apreciated.

I was addicted to Lortab and soma.  I went to just a detox program, they give you meds like valium and alot others to sedate you while you detox. In my program they didn't do any aftercare.  I was there for 8 days but pretty much sedated the whole time. My only problem is that I relapsed about 1 month later. I then detoxed on my own and it was horrible.  Bad enough to never do it again. anyway that is my story with the detox. Good luck to you...

thanks for your post this is my firs time trying to taper and I have been pretty successful to reduce over 50 percent in the last two weeks its just getting harder to do without medical resources.  I am definetly going to seek aftercare I understand my body will still want the drug even though I wasnt taking it for a high i still did damage to my endorphines and resceptors.  the irony in all of this is I did my undergrad in psychology and studied what I am going through.  I should have known better but when you are in pain well that much pain you will do anything take anything to make it go away.  your post is making me lean towards going to the detox I know nothing is a cakewalk but I would rather be medically supervised then try to get through it in my bathrub taking vitamins

Is it rapid detox???

Your wd will depend on length of use and size of habit.

I went cold turkey and it was NOT over for me in 5-7 days.  There are many methods out there however.

If you are dependant, you will have a much easier time than most.  Don't let a detox facility that is trying to get your business be the one to make this determination.

NA has a pamphlet online you can read that is titled "Am I an addict?"  In it are questions that can help YOU make that determination.

I sure hope addiction is NOT your issue, but that's your call.  Get informed and decide the route that best achieves your ultimate goal, getting clean.  The detox method is money well spent if you get your results.

Wishing you the best with this,

bob

if i was in your shoes and i could control them i would give the taper a try and see if you can do it before u spent money on a detox but that is only if you are 100% sure u do not have a problem taking the exact amount because the problem with a taper is just say something happens and you have a bad day are you 100% positive that you are not going to get home after that terrible day and say well what the hell ill just pop a couple extra today cause its been such a bad day and get back on the taper tommorrow that is the problem with doing a taper by yourself if u are sure you wont do that then i would try to finish the taper you are on now but as soon as you have a problem and mess up the taper and take more than you are supposed to i would go to the detox program and as far as the 5 days and no withdrawal symptoms it is not possible at all what so ever you might not have any physical withdrawal symptoms but the mental ones will still be there for a good little while the getting over the physical withdrawals is just the tip of the ice because as hard as the physical part is in my opinion the mental withdrawals are harder to deal with

good luck and either decision is a good decision because both roads lead to recovery

I went through a detox program in VA and it was the best thing I ever invested in.  I have tapered successfully on my own, but this time I was trying to taper from subxone and just could not do it.  I would say go if you have tried tapering and failed before.  It sounds like the place you are looking at may be similar to what I did.  Nothing is "Free" of withdrawal, but you will definitely be much more comfortable.  Just a little for warning - it's not a cakewalk either, there will be some recovery time following the detox, it will take about a month in total before you really are close to 100% again.  However - it is still 100% worth it in my book.  My recommendation would be to go - and get some aftercare help too - even if you are not addicted, it just helps get the body and soul in the right place and gives you support - no matter how much or how little you need it.  Best of luck.

I have never been to rehab, so I can't say if what they say is realistic but I know if I was you I would go.

its strickly detox I am not addicted to pain killers I am dependant on them If I need any aftercare Ill get it locally my problem isw the pain in my knees when i stop and the restless legs I get as well as becoming a bit agitated and short tempered.  Don't get me wrong I consider myself an adict but everyone keeps telling me I am not that im just dependant on them.  I just want to get over the wd then I will be able to deal with the rest by myself they sound pretty good the place is called Novus I just spoke with then and i think this might be perfect for me he said in 5 to seven days I will be drug free and not have any withdrawl symptoms is that even possible?

With either choice you will be "doing it yourself".

Probably the biggest eye-opener I had coming to medhelp was that this recovery didn't end for me when the physical detox symptoms did.

If you go the rehab route, your work does not end when you leave, it begins.

Like Avis suggests, I would see what type of care is involved.   You can also look into NA, which is free.

Tapering is tough, especially if you are an addict.  Have you tried it before???  Can you be honest with yourself about your chances of success using this method???

Do your homework, read lots here and make an informed decision.  No matter the method, this is something you need to want badly to be successful.

Good-luck,

bob

see now is this a week of detox or rehab rehab I would say go because they give intensive addiction recovery help ...detox is more just making you comfortable as you go off the meds I would ask how much therapy and recovery care is envolved
