Should I go to Harbor Lights Salvation Army?

Hi, everyone. I just recently quit taking methadone cold turkey 12 days ago. I quit because I was driving on a suspended driving license and got thrown in jail for 7 days. When I was in jail my withdraws were'nt nearly as bad as I had heard they would be, but now that I'm out they've gotten worse. I'm on a list to get into a low-end rehab here in Indianapolis, but I don't feel like I'm at risk of relapse. I have no car and no way of getting drugs. And I'm afraid I'll get in there and I'll just meet some new dope connections, and screw up everything I've worked for. What do you guys think?

You have made progress and the worst may be behind you but you still have some tough days to go. I have been in many programs,(inpatient and methadone) but never was in a S.A., but it may be the way to go. You need to get heathier and don't take dope . I have been around a lot of methadonians and was one myself, but only heard of on person shooting up liquid meth and it can't be good. I encourage you to go into whatever program you can but if there are some junkies there that are getting loaded, run. all the best

I did go to my first meeting last night but it was an AA meeting, but they did make me feel welcomed and I did feel a lot better when I left. I think I'm gonna give it a shot with SA though, I'm checking in friday morning. They let you smoke and take vitamins and protein supplements which I believe have helped a lot in my case. And although I'm on day 12 my withdraws are still pretty bad, I just don't show it cause I don't want my fam to get scared. I also have high blood pressure, and this is gonna make me sound like an absolute fool but I shot up my liquid methadone for years and I've been havin a few chest pains. But thanks for your kind words, from other posts I've read from you, it sounds like your road to recovery has been a very successful one, I've seen you give a lot of really great advice in other forums, maybe you could become a substance abuse counselor.

Sincerely
Holden

hey dude if your 12 days into it your past most of the physical stuff so I would just stick it out your probably feeling like you got hit by a truck with the lack of energy this is prity normal for methadone withdrawals ...right now the best thing you could do would be get some aftercare like going to N/A or see a drug conslor  the mental 'mind screw' part of getting clean can be more challenging then the withdrawal itself so check out some aftercare it will help you where your at now.....good luck and God bless...Gnarly
