to help her 'til she can start suboxone again, should I give her darvocet?

Addicted to oxycontin, my daughter did fantastic on suboxone treatment for 7 months. First time in 8 years (she's only 23) she functioned normally; able to work and take classes.   She was so happy with her new life. But as she tapered off the S, she started taking other stuff again.  I think, mostly lortab, and lots of vodka and other alchohol.  Lost her job and has gone down hill the past 2 months.  Last night, she admitted that she needs help and wants to go back to S clinic.  It will take a couple of weeks before she can get in and she is hurting in withdrawal..  Should we give her some darvocet to ease her withdrawal?  If so, how much? She lives with us, so I can control the dose.  Right now, she doesn't even know I have them,

as the mother of three addicts...i cannot even imagine giving my addicts drugs...no matter how bad the withdrawals are.  maybe a little pain and discomfort will help her remember "why" she stayed clean for awhile.

your daughter is young and it's obvious that she has some core issues that need addressing instead of medicating...most all addicts do.  i would get her into therapy...long term if possible...instead of "trying" to medicate her troubles away.  the long and short of it is that her issues are NOT going away until they are dealt with.  she can take sub for 5-10 years...but whatever her demon is will STILL be there and start clawing it's way back out again.  she is still young enough to turn her life around...and still young enough for you to be a positive influence on getting her into some kind of therapy.

if you are thinking about giving her pills so she wont go out and buy pills...then you are enabling her addiction.  NOT a good thing ! ! !  i suggest you also seek some counseling yourself, maybe alanon, so you can learn the tools to help her sobriety and not her addiction.

I dont think feeding her another opiate is really a good plan either.  WD's are tough and miserable but that is part of this addiction.  Check out the amino acids in the health pages.  Get her going on something healthy for her.  Aftercare is very important.  As avis said she needs the learn the tools to stay clean.  Make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids, bananas are good and immodium for diarrhea.  Warm baths or showers for the aches.  Keep us posted..........sara

the problem with darvocet is that it's a pretty weak opiate with a relatively high level of acetaminophen, about 650mg each.  acetaminophen is really bad for the liver.

how long was she on sub?

do you have the option of putting her in inpatient rehab?

Sub works by filling up the receptors that her DOC used to fill .This is what kept her from craving other drugs .Then when she stopped the sub there was nothing filling the receptors anymore so she started craving again. Instead of giving her drugs until she can get back on sub. I would look into recovery programs aa/na therapies. If she is not already in one to start teaching her the tools to be clean and stay clean without the assistance of a replacement drug. Her brain is not going to start healing until those respirators no longer have drugs of any type in them ...
Also calamity is right plz do alot of research into sub before she goes back on it .Do you know how long she was off it before she started to use again and how long was she on it ?

Please do a sub withdrawal search.  I have heard many people say sub withdrawal was worse than wds from other opiates.  Personally I would not encourage the delayed back to reality (which by the way is fatastic!!! after opiate free 2 yrs. But it improved ALOT after being only 2 weeks opiate free.  I beg you to get her on this forum instead of giving her (poison as my son with downs called it to my face one day.  Please encourage freedom !!  Freedom for Christmas. Not into another escape buzz so "mom" will see how "good" I'm doing. It's not real  ....  Just another addiction and barrier from the beautiful person you can enjoy by Christmas

I pray in Jesus name for her now to soldier up and fight for her freedom .
