Xanax Detox

Loved one got up to 4mg Xanax/day. It took 2 months to taper down to 0.5mg twice/day and feeling clear minded. After only 2 days off totally, she went into withdrawal. Back on 1mg 2xs/day (yesterday/today) and has not regained stabilization yet. How long will it take to get back into stabilization with .05mg doze again?

as long as she continues to use and stops she will go into withdrawals. she needs to be totally drug free and then she will have about 3 to 5 days of the detox. it shouldnt be that bad because she tapered. on the bottom of this page on the right there are health pages, with lots of tips to help the withdrawa process a bit more comfortable. she needs to drink lots of fluids, gatorade, juices, immodium for the stomach issues, keep moving around, laying down makes it worse, can get valerian root and melatonin for the anxiety and to help her relax. there is hylands restless leg otc for the legs. lots of hot showers and baths epsom salts help with the aches.
hope she feels better

Just an idea.....might see if you can get her doc to change her over to a longer acting benzo for the rest of the taper.  Xanax has a really short half life.

I don't know if anyone will know the answer to your question.  A doctor would be best to answer it though.  I do know that tapering is the answer though.  She will have some WDs when she stops completely.  There is no way around it, but a longer acting med would help!

Good luck!
