Suboxone Withdrawls

How long do suboxone withdrawals last? I only took it for about 2 weeks-I started w/ 1 8mg strip a day & then gradually decreased the amount over the last 2 weeks; however, I have used opiates regularly over the last 8 years. Prior to taking the suboxone I was taking 12-16 Norcos a day. Today is the first day without anything & I wanna crawl outta my skin! I do have some xanax, robaxin (muscle relaxer), and Neurontin that I have been taking, but I still feel like I weigh 500 llbs (I really weigh 110llb). I'm a single mom and I have an 8-year-old & 3-year-old daughter. I'm also taking classes online (well now really only attempting to b/c I can't freakin focus or concentrate. These chills & sweats are especially bad. I live in Southern CA, it was 80 degrees today & my chills were so bad I was wearing a thermal 2 sweatshirts & a blanket. I also have some SAM-E (I think it's an amino acid) does anyone know anything about that? I welcome ANY suggestions, words of encouragement, etc... I effing hate this! I feel so alone, discouraged, irritated, you name it & I know that a refill is only a phone call away....

Actually you are feeling the sub withdrawal, NOT the norco (sorry Vicki, I just went through all this recently). The norco is gone within the first 3 days.. That's what the sub helps you get past.. Then you body has a very long half life opiate in it (37:5 hours for sub Vs 4 hours for norco), so it takes a week just to get the sub out of your system, as well as any accumulated amounts from the long half life...

I took it only 18 days myself, tapering from 12mg down to 1mg... It took about a week to get past no energy, feeling heavy and like walking in mud, etc.. My doc had me lay in bed first 3 days taking Clonidine and trazadone to sleep when I came off sub. It took probably a couple of weeks to get my energy back, faster after the first day... Exercise helps a LOT.

I'm 67 days clean off of a huge 30-40 norco a day habit And have no cravings. The anti-depressive my doc put me on helped out a lot also...

Hang in there

Not really a question I have been trying to go cold turkey from suboxen myself and I usually cave in after the 3rd day because of the cold sweats and stomach pain. Is there any over the counter meds i can take for that becuz I believe if I can get thru the cold sweats and stomach pain I can deal w the rest. Also I have been taking very small amounts almost crumbs for the last month and want to quit completely but am afraid of dealing with those two symptoms. Is there a low wnudd dose where I can jump off and not experience the coldsweats and pain In stomach.

Hi-  Sorry you're going through this!  I'd stay away from the amino acids,or at least the ones you're taking, for a few weeks. Be sure to take the Neurontin as prescribed.

What you're experiencing is the withdrawal from the norco, not the sub. That's just how it goes. You need to drink as much fluid as you can! Be sure to eat. It's important. For the restless legs,in addition to drinking, get some Hylands Restful Legs at Walgreens,a good vitamin and mineral supplement and some Epsom salts for the bath. Also, some Melatonin which is a natural sleep aid. You'll feel pretty down for a week but gradually feel better. You need to be patient;8 years is a long time to undo in a few days.

The most important thing here is fluid so really keep drinking!  Good luck!

If you go to the bottom right hand side of this page you will see The Amino Acid Protocol as well as The Thomas Recipe. They contain supplement suggestions. I am not familiar with them but will see if I can get someone for you.

The doctor that I got them from told me that I would be taking the suboxone for a year. Coincidentally I do not have insurance & the office visits alone are $80. This is why I decided to taper down myself, that doctor was a joke & just seemed 2 be in  it 4 the $. As far as the amino acids, what dosage of the L-Tyrosine is recommended? I also have 5-HTP & SAM-E..I need 2 do some more research on those because I am also taking 300mg of neurontin, robaxin, and low dosages of xanax (.5mg). Even with that I only got about 3 hours of sleep. My legs are driving me crazy but the chills & sweating have subsided a little (knock on wood). I've done hot baths w/ epsom salt. Any other vitamins, supplements or suggestions? How long will this last?

Hi,

I am sorry your post was overlooked.

This is why we always suggest that members do a program, with their doctor, on Suboxone. They use a COWS chart and put you on the proper dose.

Your self-medicating is most likely causing this. Stay with the amino acids, they will help a bit.

Whatever you do, don't use. If you want to do the Suboxone program, please do it properly.

Let us know what is going on and we can make some suggestions on home remedies, etc. Hang in there.
