Taking 10mgs of methadone a day

So my journey of getting clean started at a methadone clinic. Got put on 30 mgs a day and never went up.  Went there for just over a year and felt great. I wanted to start tapering off weekly. they continuously told me that they can't do it just yet, kept telling me that I needed to get stable. I was taking or "doing" anywhere from 90-120 mgs a day of oxicodone a day previous to going to the clinic. I started to stop paying and they then started taking me down daily by 2 mgs. Which turned to 4, 8, 16 till they gave me 2 mgs the last day I went. All within 1 week this happened.  I had a friend who had methadone in pill form (10mgs) that I continued taking. Was taking 10mgs per day for 3-5 months. In the time I never touched an opiate besides the methadone. I'm now ready to get off the methadone, is suboxone okay to take 1 day after taking 10 mgs of methadone? Keep in mind I've been taking methadone for a couple years now. I had a doc tell me that I would have to stop taking methadone for 7-10 days before I could start the use of suboxone. Does anyone have an experience like mine?

Well the fact that I'm getting it illegally is my main reason.  And I refuse to go back to a clinic cause they start you at 30 mgs. The friend also has other people that he gets it for so he always doesn't have it.

Hi & Welcome,

Why don't you just taper down the Methadone and get all of this over with? You went from Opiates to Methadone and now Suboxone. You will have withdrawal from all of them so where does it stop?

If you are determined to do this then follow your prescribing doctor's plan. Best of luck
