Detoxing again!

Hi all some of you may remeber me from a couple months ago!  I was on percs for a about 1.5 years and went 20 days clean then started using again about 3 weeks ago.  I'm starting day 3 of clean time again and was wandering if the recovery will be shorter?

Hi all and thanks for the support and advice!  Almost through 72 hours and feeling great so far today!  Got about 6 hours of sleep last nite with help from nyquilnand melatonin!  Aftercare is tough for me because my family has no idea and I need it to stay that way!

Recovery takes a lifetime, unfortunately. It took me 5 years of relapse before I every found that out. I always thought that if I could just get through the withdrawals all would be well. It's just not that easy. Withdrawals will be over by a month, but the continued recovery is the hard part. Get into aftercare now. It's the only chance of long term sobriety. The addiction will always talk you into going back unless you get the tools to fight the urges. For me, it took rehab, meetings, and continues aftercare every week. The first few months are when you will be most vulnerable. Get into aftercare now and make the transition into recovery possible.

It's not easy to admit our failures and I commend you. I can't tell u how many times I've gone thru wd. I wish I could get 30 days clean. I get thru 2 wks and end up getting my refill. I guess as long as the Dr writes them, and they are available makes it so hard. Good luck and pray for me

The w/ds aren't very bad for me except for the no sleep and some mental let downs every now and then!  My main concern is stopping for good!

I had 2 weeks clean and used for 2 days and my wds were  still pretty bad. I was supprised .  But I only had 2 weeks clean after 8 years of opiates .  Come on Jay bite the bullet you can do it !!!  We will support you.  Nothing better than a steam room for the first week. Not much fun driving home from the steam room.  Sorry rambling

Hi Jaybird - welcome back and congratulations on your 3 days.  It's tough to say if the withdrawal will be any shorter or less intense than the last time - that really depends on your dose and how quickly you got there.  If you were clean 20 days, that's really not enough time for the brain to recover, so I suspect that you were going pretty good in a fairly short time.  Once you detox, it takes the brain 60 - 90 days to really get to a point where it is making endorphins on it's own and using them.  Taking opiates substitutes for the natural endorphins, so your body just stops making them.  It's important that you get into some aftercare program and work on the triggers that made you relapse this time.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Most of us relapse and many do it more than once.  The important thing is that you get right back up and move forward.  Congratulations again - keep posting.
