Terrified of what my doctor has done to me

My doctor has had me on 6mg of Xanax a day fo 4 yrs and he informed me the other day that he can't prescibe me the medication anymore because he's being investigated for excessive prescpition writitng. To qoute him " its not just your case but many of my other patients" So I asked him if he could wean me off as to decrease the severe withdrawl I will be experiancing. I've been doing a lot of research on this subject and everything i have come across is frightening. He suggested a medication called Depacote yet in none of my research this medication is mentioned in the weaning off process. Unfortunatly I'm unemployed with no insurance so I can't chek myself into a medical detox or rehab center. I could have interviews coming up shortly but it doesn't sound like I will be able to handle them with the anxiety as well as the withdrawl symptoms and the possibility of a seizure. What if any recourse do I have?

"seizures are the only dangerous symptom of benzo withdrawal"

Actually there are quite a few more: suicidal ideation,  derealization, deperonalization to name a few.

Tapering is imperative.

You need to find another doctor and talk with him/her about what is going on right now.

Depakote is also used to prevent seizures, which I'm sure is why he prescribed it. Seizures are the only dangerous symptom of benzo withdrawal and he's covering his arse. Just find another doctor who has some compassion. The current one is a piece of trash.

"""he informed me the other day that he can't prescribe me the medication anymore because he's being investigated for excessive prescrpition writing"""" ....said it before and will say it again,  the medical community with the complete backing of the FDA (in this country at least)  are just as responsible for addiction as the patients themselves.        The pharmaceutical companies could care less you became addicted,  they only look at their sales charts at corporate headquarters.    So the FDA and big pharms should also be investigated.

This is very serious.  Did he say he will not wean you off of the drug?  Is there another dr in his practice?  Depacote is an anti-depressant.  I would go back to see him and tell him this is serious and it is extremely dangerous to quit this drug cold turkey.  You have to go to another dr or he has to wean you off of this drug.  Do you have some Xanax left?
