your employer does not "have" to offer you rehab. Most companies are "at will" and can terminate you for no reason Please be careful what you say at you job.
Good Luck!
Hopefully you got your answer...you wont need to tell your employer. Now down the line if you stay on suboxone for awhile you will have some withdrawls when coming off. Now they shouldnt be as bad as others, but you may want to save up some vacation time, or try and plan it around a holiday, something that you will have 5-7days off on the time when you eventually kick it. The severity of the withdrawl differs from person to person, but more on how much and how long you've taken suboxone, so remember lower and shorter the use the better in general. By law your employer cannot fire you for your addiction, they have to offer rehab, but make no mistake if they really want you gone they will figure a way of getting viable reasons to let you go. It would be nice to think we live in this perfect world where our employer's would be sympathetic to the situation, but in all likelihood they dont want an addict working for them knowingly. So, just like stated above dont tell anyone at the workplace and also thats why I said to try and plan ahead for some vacation/sick days when its time to come off in order to keep them in the dark. You really should be able to do this without them knowing anything at all, now you will have somedays where you dont feel 100%, but never anything too serious to deal with. Good luck in your recovery, you've come to a wonderful place to learn and gain support from. Best wishes to you both!!!
I went on suboxone last mont and DID NOT tell my employer. Although my job in the handbook says that I have to tell them if I am an addict so they can send me to rehab, I took this as I am not in rehab, just taking a medication. So don't worry about it. Sub doesn't show up on the stand drug screen. You should be fine, just DO NOT trust anyone that you work with and tell them this. You never know what the future brings with that person. Start on the lowest dose possible. Alot of docs start way too high on about 24mg. Believe me when I tell you that 16mg to 24mg makes very little difference and starting higher and staying on it too long will get you addicted to the drug. Although I don't know you Drug of choice and the dosage, I was taking 160 to sometimes 320mg a day of oxys. I am now on 16mg and dosing myself down to quit by Novemeber. Good luck.
Yeah like Mary said get to a low dose fast. I did and i seem to be doing great on 1-2 mg a day. Some days 1 mg some days 2 mgs.
Suboxone is great but you have to be careful b/c it has a w/d period too when you quit it.
Hi,
I sent you a pm

No, your employer does not need to know. I think they were referring to being fired because of your addiction. Then they must offer rehab.
Make sure you do all your homework on Suboxone. Also, try to get down to the lowest possible dose in the first few months. It's much easier to taper in the beginning. It will also be much cheaper to stay on a maintenance dose if you need to.
It's is a life saving med if used properly. Best of Luck.
