The waiting is overwhelMing...

I have spent the last month trying to get into the medical detox program at the center for addiction and mental Heath in Toronto. I'm feeling so frustrated that they are not consistent in returning my phone calls or giving me an admission date.  I so badly want to get in and get my life back on track! The waiting is killing me! The longer I wait, the more I use. I could really use some support around hanging on and not giving up on the prospect of going into treatment.

What are medical detox centers? Haven't heard about them.
Is this a social medicine problem?

i spent 5 hours in the psych er/detox center only to have them send me home saying i wasnt in withdrawal despite how sick and anxious i was. i checked in my phonebook for numbers to call for other places. theres usually more than one option for drug detox especially in major urban areas like toronto. i would try looking another place up. if not just keep calling and def check out some meetings. NA has a lot of support systems and they could probably help you find a place to check into. good luck. and dont give up.

Hey there Littlefoot,  Glad you're here.  I once had to wait in the waiting room of a mental health/rehab facilty for about 8hrs.  Then they told me I wasn't going to be admitted.  The system is the system and we can't do a whole lot about it.  I say just keep calling them and trying.  Have tried getting to an AA or NA mtg?  They are free and usually quite a few folks who are willing to help.  You don't have to be clean to go the mtgs.  I go to AA and it helps me quite a bit.  Do your best to relax.  Keep sharing in here. There are lots of good folks with some great experience that might help you.  God Bless!!!
