Tough love vs. Tragedy

To: MedHelp       Thank you for moving my comment to the proper forum. Our HCV forum is where I read about the frightened mom, who was asking for help, re: her 16 yr. old taking zanex, (not prescribed for him). I left out the part about finding out where he got them. In the mom's shoes I would write an anonymous letter to be distributed to all the parents @ her sons school.  I would go something like this. I have a student at this school whom I discovered was taking prescription drugs that were not prescribed to him. I have no idea where he got the pills, since we don't have that drug in our home, I'm assuming it came from one of yours. If your kid was the one he got them from, he/she is probably taking them too. Please be certain to flush all unused Rx pills down your toilet. If you are taking prescription drugs, lock them away, put them somewhere your child cannot access them.  The childs life you save could be your own. Thank you and may the Good Lord Bless and keep all of our children from harms way. A frightened mom

I have 3 children, and unfortunately in my town, its unlikely unless they actually find the kids in posession of a controled substance. Then again, they (kids) have to have any meds., even tylenol or midol, etc. kept in the school office and if they are caught with anything, they do get a warning at first as long as its not a controlled substance.

I don't have any young children, but I would hope the schools would be on top of this and sending out letters to all parents. But not likely, huh?
