Tramadol vs. Opiot withdrawal - what is the difference?

Hi, I have read quite a bit of posts of those taking Tramadol going through horrible withdrawals.  The consensus I am reading is Tramadol has worse withdrawals than codeine..compared to Meth on some posts.

I am currently taking Tramadol prescribed by Dr. but also prescribed by "me" for depression/mild ADD, etc. My doctor told me Tramadol is a "good little drug" and not strong enough to consider for suboxone (spelling?) therapy to get off .   He told me it was as mild if not milder than Tylenol 3.

So, my question is, how can this "innocent, good little drug" have withdrawals compared to Meth?

Can someone explain the differences to the withdrawals.  I read alittle on opiate withdrawal (codeine, perks, etc.) that you have flu like symptoms..chills, headache, sleeplessness...

With tramadol, atleast for me..withdrawals start immediately with horrendous body aches from scalp to toe..centering mostly around the waste and down through the legs.  Like every cell under your skin is "sore".  I get tinges of diarreah, headache and what I consider "brain fog" as the day prolongs without a dose.  This is all just in the mornings before I take my first dose for the day.  I average 6-8 pills of tramadol 50mg a day.  I have not stopped yet but every morning I have these symptoms. I can only imagine what the rest of day would bring if I didnt take my 2 trams in the morning.  This is symptoms inbetween the doseages.

So..what is the difference to opiates like Perkoset or stronger meds like Meth?  I would like to see symptoms spelled out for both codeine and Meth users as I personally think Tramadol might as well be ranked super strong.

I am just gong on what my doctor told me but how can I get adequate doctor help with withdrwals when he considers the drug "innocent"...do those withdrawals in the morning seem innocent?  Not to me.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

That was spoken like someone who has never taken any drug and had to stop. trams are the worst withdraw you could imagine. Body and mental torture that seems to last for I dont know how long. I take tramadol and I would rather spend an hour having my finger nails pulled off then go through weeks of that withdrawl.

rone,
Taking one narcotic to get off another is a very bad idea plz dont it just opens yourself up to changing or addiction from one med to another .wd is not fun at all but it doesn't last forever I would try to ride it out.

Regards : Your inquiry about methadone.  I would rate methadone right up there as the worst withdrawal that I ever experienced.  And that would be as oppossed to hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, heroin and a few others.  The methadone wanted to stay around forever. Several weeks of standard physical w/d's and then months of mental things. Possibly up to a full year to get back in any kind of decent shape. Would highly recommend the Amino Acid Protocols for feeding yourself the right stuff for the post w/d period.....

For some people  WD is worse coming off of tram I believe its because it works as an antidepressant so it like coming off of an pain pill and an AD all at once .Its kind of to for the price of one .

opiates are a lot kinder than tram.  tram is poison.  hell drug.  and the worst of it is that it is sold as innocent.  at least with opiates you know they are addictive.   i am withdrawing now and it's a big big deal.  you have some work in front of you...

I never noticed much coming off of other opiates other than mild listlessness and depression.  With the tramadol though..I don't notice..I EXPERIENCE massive body aches..there is no other way to describe it.

On them, however, I feel no bad side effects.  I have no headaches, dizziness or anything...I feel content.  I don't get a high just feel "normal"..like my chemical inbalance everywhere finally is in agreement.

I function better on them which is why I have not stopped ...yet.   I came on here to praise Tramadol when I started reading all the horror stories getting off of it.  I can relate..as much as I like this drug for the good it does it does have a "nasty" goodbye to it...it doesnt like to leave..lol.

I would still be greatly interested in the meth users to respond what there withdrawals are like..what scares me is I read a couple posts which described coming off trams was similar to meth...whatever that means?  If that is the case, I want to go back to my doctor for some sub or something when I quit using this.....as I don't want to suffer through all that just because he doesnt believe it is a bad drug.

For me, on and off other opiates for other illnesses, etc. I never even noticed withdrawal..but every morning on the trams I feel like a truck hit me so I know I am in for not too good withdrwals...

You will find that everyone is different.  Some people can have a minor surgery and take Hydrocodone as prescribed for a week or more and then have to taper off over a period of weeks after the surgery pain is gone.  Others can stop taking Oxy cold-turkey and simply have a headache for a day or two.  I know less about Tramadol but I know that some people can get addicted to it just as badly as Opiates.

I personally have never had any withdrawls from Tramadol but will have the standard witdrawl symptoms from opiates when stopping them abruptly.  Anxiety, agitation, temperature fluctuations, abdominal cramping, pain in joints, old injuries beginning to hurt again, etc.  These are the worst from 12hrs after last pill and go on for apx 36hrs.  With time released Oxy, the worst effects started 24hrs after the last dose and lasted for 72hrs before I finally began feeling better.  In fact, it was so much worse than Norco, that I have refused to take any time-released Oxy since.

Best of luck to you.
