Trying to be strong

Hi all. Thanks for all the feedback and help. I took 2 vic at 5:30 this morning.  Haven't taken any since and am used to 4 to 6 a day.  My shoulder is getting more painful by the hour. At this point the pain is going down my back and up my neck.  This is going to be so hard because the pain is so hard to handle and won't go away until I have surgery. Can't even get in to see a surgeon for a month no matter how much pain you tell them you are in. I have tried everything otc that I could find. Was thinking at this point of taking tyl#3 instead of vic just to keep the worst of the pain at bay.  I have been on and off those for years and never really seemed to have any wd syptoms........just cravings, but not nearly like the ones I get with vics.   I do want to get off all this stuff. It is costing me a fortune and i hate worrying about where to get one next. But sometimes It feels hopeless to me because realistically it will be probably months until I can get surgery scheduled and I have heard horror stories from people that have had this rotator cuff surgery (including a cousin and an uncle).  I am told it is one of the most painful surgeries and one of the most difficult to recover from.  I just feel like why bother going thru all of this when I don't see how I am going to make it thru the next 2 months and surgery recovery without some heavy duty pain meds?  It is frustrating.

I didn't go through rotator cuff surgery but I did break my shoulder in two places this summer. If you are afraid of the opiates there are other options for you. Even just letting your doctors know that you want to be really careful and take as few as possible after surgery. They can be more careful with you about that. It is one of the most painful surgeries and rehab after is going to be really tough so I don't normally say this but you may have to put off detoxing for a while. just do your best not to abuse the drugs at this point. You want them to do their job after your surgery. It sounds like you do have a problem with them at this point since you worry about where to get them next cravings and you mentioned years. You may need to be a little more honest with your ortopedic or when you have surgery what is going to relieve your pain if you are already addicted to the pain meds.

hi glad to see you posting...it is worth it even if you have to take pain meds after the surgery if you get a handle on it now...when everything settles after the surgery, maybe it wont be so hard to get off them.  good luck to you

Congrats on trying to get clean. Does your doctor know about your situation? Perhaps he could prescribe pain meds that are non-narcotic. This forum is a great place to get answers about addiction, the people here are more than supportive. Good luck and god bless!
