Trying to start suboxene treatment

Hello everyone,
I am trying to find a doctor who will treat me with suboxone or subutex. I do not have a reference from a psychiatrist but know enough people who have had the same issue I do and have successfully kicked their habit with suboxone or subutex. Does anyone know a doctor that will see me without a referral and accepts caresource?
Thank You,

Can I just add my two cents on Suboxone...  I can speak from experience.  I was addicted to extra strength Vicodin, taking 20+ a day.  Suboxone saved my life.  I started taking them last April.  I started out at 16 mg per day and I am now down to 2 mg per day with a plan to be completely off of them in a month.  I have had zero problems with tapering off of Suboxone.  After reading everybody's horror stories I thank God that I have had such an easy time tapering.  Please know that not everybody has such a hard time getting off of Suboxone.  Good luck to you and I hope you are able to find a good Sub doctor.  I found my doctor my googling sub doctors in my area and I did not have a referral.

Hi i personally have not taken subs. I am clean from percocet 95 days now .
But I have a very good friend that is on Subs and with proper doctor care therapy and group session she is doing so good. It saved her life she was not able to just quit using her DOC which started out as pills but ended in heroin and she was very bad off and the subs are helping her get her life back and she is working very hard to get everything in order . I was always very scarred of subs from what i had read but I have seen with my own eyes what it can do to help someone change their life. She is on a slow taper and its working. She is in school working and taking her life back one day at a time. The change in her is incredible and like I said I was always against Subs just from the horrible stories until I saw what a good tool it can be to get clean if you are using it properly.
good luck to you there are alot of people on here that have alot of experience with subs good and bad .But Just educate yourself and make the choice that is right for you:) Good luck i am always here you can message me to offer you support or just to talk.

Bridget, please do not be scared away from Suboxone. It is completely your choice if you do your homework and find it to be the right choice for you. I was on Suboxone for two years, did a very slow taper (started on 8 mg and ended at just tiny crumbs) and even after 2 years had an extremely mild withdrawal. I had so e loss of energy as my worst symptom, it was truly nothing bad. I have heard of people having horrible withdrawal from Suboxone, but I believe that everyone is different. Some people jump off at too high of a dose or do not taper long enough.

My point is, Suboxone is just part of a recovery plan and can be very useful for many people. While I was ready to quit abusing pills and change my life, I also knew I was not mentally where I could trust that I would not use. Suboxone allowed me the time to be off my DOC and get therapy and prepare my mind and body for a drug free life.

Suboxone is not for everyone but please do not be frightened away if it is an option for you. Best of luck.

Thank you nursegirl. I love how you back your statements with a broad base of knowledge. Well said.

If you choose suboxone, educate yourself with objective information and definitely form a good aftercare program, even if your local program doesn't require it. I always encourage people to read the suboxone/subutex FAQs at the bottom of this page to learn about general info as well as long and short term use pro's and con's. I hope you find what works for you.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think people have to be careful making such strong statements...like signing your death certificate if you went on Subs, etc.

Plus like this...

opiate that has a crazy-long half life that binds to receptors so strongly, that withdrawals usually take months until you are feeling back to close to normal.

That's not really factual.  Sub doesn't bind more "strongly" to opiate receptors.  There is no such thing.  The long half life is what MAY prolong the detox period.

The brief period of time I worked in a Sub clinic was a very positive experience.  Of course it isn't for everyone.  Of course there are risks.  I just don't think it's fair to paint it in SUCH a bad light to frighten people who may have made their decision to go that route for their treatment.  With a GOOD clinic, Sub can be a good tool.  I saw many people successful tapered off sub.  It may have taken longer, but with a slow and deliberate taper, the patients felt only very mild w/d...nothing that even interrupted their life.  It's the people who come off at 2mg, 4mg and up that run into more trouble.  Again, the right clinic makes the difference in those kinds of things.

Plus, you cannot really make such harsh judgements based on your experience takiong one sub that wasn't prescribed to you.  There's a good reason why it is very important to come up with an accurate induction dose.  With sub, most people actually only need a VERY small dose.

You likely took way more than you needed to.  Out of the patients I saw come through there, who were on the right dose, not one of them ever said they felt "high".  Quite the contraray actually.  Most of them said they felt clearer than they had in a long time.

Again, you're entitled to your opinion, but I think you have to be careful going overboard, making a lot of generalizations, and possibly even exaggerating, to sort of prove your own point (ie the receptor comment).

No offense intended...it just bothers me when I see people being given info in a "fear mongering" way.

sub is for people that hav no other choice (high doses) u can do a short taper where u dont get addicted or a long term plan which is what im on. i was taking bout 100 mg of oxy and 1500 mgs of tramadol on a good day that was my min. u have to make the right choice for u. but sub isnt just a pill its a whole program u need meetings aftercare ect.what r u on and how much thats a big factor

Do your research on here.  You will read endless stories of people going through 30, 60, 90, 200 days of withdrawal hell from jumping off Suboxone at such a low dose as 0.05mgs.  It's scary...

Please do your research.  Most people who have been through Suboxone/Subutex treatment say they wish they never did it.  The withdrawals are longer, meaner, and just more taxing on the body.

You are just substituting one opiate (your drug of choice) for a much stronger opiate that has a crazy-long half life that binds to receptors so strongly, that withdrawals usually take months until you are feeling back to close to normal.

IMO - not worth it.  Suboxone users (most of the time) say they wish the just kicked cold turkey or stuck to their taper program because if you thought withdrawal from short-acting opiates like vicodin, oxy, lorcet/tab, hydrocodone was hell...wait till you have to stop taking Suboxone/Subutex.

I took ONE Suboxone strip once in my life, because I was in 2nd day of withdrawal and thought I couldn't take it anymore...I got higher than I've ever been...it is SO STRONG.  I had to stop myself there, because I knew that it was a better high than my drug of choice, hydrocodone/oxycodone, and I may have well sign my death certificate if I got on that program.  Never again...you couldn't pay me a billion dollars to EVER take Suboxone/Subutex again.

Please, I just am offering my experience and my years of extensive research.  I don't know you, but I see too many people trying to kick opiates go down this path just to hear a couple years later that they are still on Suboxone/Subutex, and wish they never started bc now they have a stronger addiction to beat.

Love.
