Understanding the effects of weaning off methadone

HI there everyone. This is my first time asking a question online, but Im not finding very many useful answers on my own. I was put on methadone for an addiction to my prescribed pain killers 4 yrs ago. I am currently on 8mg of methadone and being weaned down 1mg every 4-6 weeks.
It has been very difficult for, I have not been myself since Ive been on methadone and I have no energy, cant sleep, irritable, and in alot of discomfort/pain and sooo much more. My husband, family, and friends just absolutely DO NOT understand what I am going through or that Im not at the same energetic/happy level they are all at in life for the last 4 years Ive been on it.
Im hoping there others out there supporting their loved ones trying to wean off methadone or going through it themselves, that are able to explain ways they can support me or help all of understand more about this process.

                                                                                                           -Thank You

The first week was ok I was sleepy by week 2 I was a mess and it took almost a month for the physical things to go away
I never tried the thomas recipe, I took many warm baths a night, I talked to people on medhelp when i couldnt sleep I slept when I could, I layed in the sun and I made myself keep moving...theres no magic cure it will suck, thsi is when you will have to pull from your innermost strength
but its possible im 18 months off a 7-8 year addiction to methadone..its possible stay strong stay connected and know this too shall pass

Hi well your off to a great start congrats for getting down to 8mg  your taper is slow but slow is good  get up to walmart and pick up a 3 in 1 vitamin calcium magnesum zinc  take 4 with breakfast and 4 with dinner this will really help with the withdrawals in a few days going so slow your only enemy is the low serum level of methadone in your blood  it does not hold you over in the lower doses  just know it is possible to break free from this drug  recovery is slow but with time you will get your life back  I consider it one of my greatest accomplishments........................................Gnarly

Hi honey,
I don't know why doctors prescribe methadone or subozone for opiate w/d. Because I have heard that these 2 drugs w/ds are so much worse than the opiates themselves. Well that being said, I agree with Dozeman. Just flush what you have a jump off. The first week is the worst, and then you start to feel better and better each day. It's a short time, but is very uncomfortable, I won't lie to you, but you can do it! Keep posting and let us know your progress.
